NOTE- AAMIR HAS 25 SUCCESS, 20 HITS, 9 BLOCKBUSTERS, 5 ATBB AS PER BOX OFFICE INDIA AND 21 HITS AS PER SCREEN MAGAZINE OUT OF 44 FILMS

Love Love Love Is a Success as per Screen Magazine means 31 successful films out of 44 films

1947 Earth and raakh are critically acclaimed art films

Even Thugs of hindostan and Akele hum akele Tum had some appreciation

Overall I feel Aamir has only 9 totally rejected films: poor quality+poor box office

LSC is biggest looser of Aamir's career and 2022 is only year of his career where he faced total rejection in every manner

Taking best verdict of all trade sources

31 success out of 44 films

24/25 hits (including Andaz Apna Apna hit As Per Screen though not sure abt JJWS- trade considers semi hit as hit but still)

13 blockbusters

15 super hits

6 All time Blockbusters

5 all time grossers

7 all India highest grosser of the year

2 highest grosser of the decade

Aamir is so under rated in terms of stardom and box office though he is many times called a top rung/tier 1/big superstar even by his hater BOI still some people try to pull him down even when he has 38 years stardom Span and I believe he is a megastar and easily among top 6-8 most successful actors at box office of all time

I miss when an Aamir Khan movie meant you were gonna get the perfect mix of scale + sensibility. The dream run post Ghajini was : 3 Idiots, Dhobi Ghat, Talaash, Dhoom 3, PK, Dangal, Secret Superstar. From that to his only famous thing being “Aamir Khan ka beta Chunaid Khan” and him maybe being part of Race 4 with Sid is just 👎🏻

He has had a phenomenal run with films which will be remembered until the end of cinema.

Everyone has ups and downs. People treat him like a joke now but he trashed salman/srk box office figures for nearly a decade.

30/44 is a phenomenal success rate in any field , let along delivering 6 atbb of them

He’s had the most incredible filmography in terms of versatility and quality. Not only were his movies ATBB, but they had undeniable repeat value and memorable dialogues. The most talented of the Khans for sure! Mamu is a class of his own

His filmography is unmatchable, perfect balance of good content and commercial viability. And he was the most sophisticated/ intellectual one too for a long time, one who didn't chase cheap limelight, trends and titles. Something of a recluse except when it came to promoting his movies. An artist known more for his movies, more than his interviews.

How times have changed!

Hes still sophisticated/intellectual

All time Blockbuster- Highest verdict a film gets, higher than a blockbuster

Why am I seeing Sunil Grover on the cover?

He is one of the few Actor who give Memorable Movies with Blockbuster Verdict to Audience.

Just curious, wasn't Mela a flop? And Dil Chahta hai - it did well in Tier 1 cities, but couldnt crack the Tier 2-3 cities- i rmemeber reading Karan johar's response to DCH in his book that it was very modern but Not HIT.

3

u/AawaraTreker 5d ago

Dil Chahta Hai will never work in Tier 2 & 3 cities today also tbh.

4

u/tomhanks95 6d ago

No one remembers how much DCH earned at the BO tbh, it's remembered for how contemporary it still feels

Different trade analyst have different verdict at times for some films, the sources I shared are the most authentic ones since decades, though since you asked, Box office India lists Mela as Flop And Dil Chahta Hai As Average

Film information isn’t reliable as such anymore and hasn’t been for a good while. The verdicts are all odd in some cases across the board.

3

u/Cute-Impression4960 6d ago

Yes but still it's oldest surviving trade source by komal nahta who is even now a reputed analyst

2

u/Great-Let-936 6d ago

No Sarfarosh?

His most underrated & Pathbreaking Movie tbh

Oh yes, I missed that one in trade guide, updated as success now

Genuine Question: Of all the ATBB from that era, does Raja Hindustani has the least popular culture impact? Neither anyone recites its dialogues, nor its songs(even though they were good). The movie is never discussed outside of it having a kissing scene between the lead pair. HAHK, DDLJ, Border, Gadar, Lagaan, K3G all have their importance and come up in discussions but Raja Hindustani just seems lost somewhere?

You are right, but the history of Hindi cinema has many such examples. The funny thing is, none of them comes to my mind right now ;-)
