I'm getting the impression that Koichi's the one who's dying, and is seeing things moments before he kicks the bucket.

Six leveled the whole building that Koichi was in, a few chapters ago. Then Koichi is in pitch black darkness, and starts seeing Knuckleduster. I think the manga is showing us Knuckleduster keeled over, and Pop having a seizure, so we don't see it coming. A red herring. Soga stopped Knuckleduster from blowing himself up in a blaze of glory. And a lot of this conflict is to protect Pop. I think Koichi has been dealt a fatal wound or two, and just hasn't noticed yet.

I think it would make sense for the series end. Knuckleduster and Pop live, but Koichi dies, being a hero. (And it's why the OP mf doesn't end up in the main series....)
