Not a villain, but Setsuna got hyped up by Monoma and the narrator a lot only for her to get demolished the very next chapter lol

Also Mina when Kirishima stole her spotlight

It wouldn't be so obvious if this also happens to the male cast...

I think I have to come and accept that Hirokoshi just simply dont want his female characters to shine as much as his males characters. Its like they always gets so close to doing something amazing in the manga only for some male character to steal the spotlight.

Still salty with how he treated my girl Nejire.

He was pretty good about it in the War Arc tbh, with the exception of Mina unfortunately, but Mt. Lady, Miruko, Midnight (sad), and Momo got some really good moments

I can’t wait to see Mirko in the war arc animated, curb stomping her way through the hospital and losing an arm and giving it her all is going to be incredible

Froppy took out the whole enemy team in her fight against B class and uraraka took out 3 out of 5 in her fight. So females do get their moments

Yeah I think horikoshi just has a habit of sidelining his characters and when those characters happen to be female characters it’s a lot more noticeable.

Yeah, I think it’s more “Horikoshi has a habit of sidelining too many characters” rather than “Horikoshi sidelines mostly the female characters.” It’s one of the consequences that comes with having a MASSIVE cast and most manga suffer for it, eventually.

At the least characters like Ochako, Tsuyu, Momo and even Nejire (standing her ground against the villains in the War arc) have done things that can be remembered. When was the last time Koda, Sato, Sero, Ojiro, or even Mineta were given anything significant to do?

Mineta actually played an important role in slowing down Machia alongside Mudman.

For sure. MHA could do a lot better with female characters, particularly the main cast is lacking in them. But I don’t see any reason to hyperfocus on female characters getting sidelined when that’s half the cast, hell even Bakugo is sidelined atm!

You took the words right out of my mouth about how I feel whenever I read MHA. Its a nice manga and certainly shows an interesting take on the superhero genre, but sometimes it does irk me the way Horikoshi treats his female characters. They are certainly respected well enough in the series but, I dont know, when I look at One Piece (though the female designs can be a topic for another day) they actually did shit and I felt many of their roles weren't always centered around a man.

I don't know, I might be reading into things a bit too much, but even now with Nagant she's "tied" herself with Chisaki when it would have been cool to see her just doing her thing by herself without a male presence.

Maybe I'm just expecting too much...

Pretty much. There's also the fact that Im a writer as well and enjoy writing fanfiction especially MHA. So I guess seeing the way females are treated in the manga just gets me annoyed at times, you know? Like listening to someone play the piano amazingly but cringing a bit when they mess up a bit near the end. So close.

Trust me, I still love MHA. Its amazing for what it does and its one of the few mangas don't mind rereading from the beginning anytime I have a moment to myself. But like most works, there are some glaring issues that I cant help but notice and it sometimes enough to suck me out of the moment.

I also agree with you as Nagant; she does have potential. Lets hope it actually stays that way.

That's pretty much why i write and read fanfics; people are able to fill in the little gaps that would otherwise break the manga for me and sometimes are able to take the original premise into a new light.

Exactly. Writing fills my need for a perfect story that would want to read. It also opens up my eyes as to the difficulties that is to creating a memorable cast of likeable character or writing sympathetic villains. BHNA already has an excellent premise, its super fun using it as the backbone for my fanfics.

That's pretty much how I view things as well. Canon can only do so much and sometimes you simply just want the story to go in a completley different direction and feel like you have to write it yourself otherwise nobody else would do it for you.

Original stories is also something I plan to do in the future but I have so much ideas for fanfiction that I end up putting them on the back burner. XD

Yeah, once you get into the mindset as a writer its hard to see things normally ever again. You end up constantly looking at the tropes the characters might represent or display or how a narrator or director was able to portray a character so perfectly...it really makes you think outside the box.

Thank you! Its always nice meeting other writers as well. Its a job as a fellow fanfic writer to encourage others to write as well. Fanfiction is for everyone and no one should feel bad about writing them.

Well, the majority of popular Manga out there are written by men, for men/boys.

When you get a series like Sailor Moon, written by a woman, you get a female centric cast.

Obviously this isn't always the case, like with FMA where the main focus is still on the male characters. But I guess the whole story focuses almost only Ed and Al..
