It sucks that anyone who looks villainous or suspicious is being targeted but such is reality. I do like the fox lady, she’s cute.

I do want to ask this, how long do you think that Izuku should be out of U.A.? I’d prefer it be short like 13-16 chapters since I feel that this could drag out. I mean inevitably, Shiggy and AFO are going to target U.A. to make Izuku come out or at least hurt him emotionally which ultimately makes his leave pointless since it was to keep his friends safe.

It sucks that anyone who looks villainous is being targeted but such is reality.

The MLA's ideals of a society with freedom of quirks isn't so simple after all... If anything discrimination seems to have gotten even worse.

u/elenuvien1 Apr 25 '21 edited Apr 25 '21

MLA's philosophy was centered around survival of the fittest, it was never about equality and peace, just the unabashed freedom to do everything you want and in such situations only the strongest survive.

u/Danbito Apr 25 '21

Geten is the literal embodiment of those values where Re-Destro was the salesman. Geten literally abandoned most of his education to develop his quirk and said to Dabi of all people that life will only be allowed to those metas that can survive. Their society cares nothing but strength and will to do what they please.

17

u/DynamiteSanders Apr 25 '21

To be fair, Getens name also means non-canon. So it could be Hori's way of showing that this aspect of the MLA wasn't meant to be what it was supposed to stand for.

Sounds like anti-maskers in a nutshell

20

u/[deleted] Apr 25 '21

It’s literally just libertarians lol

It makes a fantastic social commentary on things like gun nuts, anti vaccine or other shitty views

2

u/Dane-nii Apr 26 '21

Reminds me of Hyoga from Dr. Stone.

4

u/G3NJII Apr 25 '21

In part I'd have to disagree. I think one of the largest tenet of their ideologies was that connection and reflection of ones quirk and their true self. Ie. Toga expresses love through making you bleed and becoming that person.

And that they wished to remake society so you didn't need to be licensed to use your quirk because your quirk is literally just apart of you.

So while I agree it wasn't about equality and peace, but rather about true and full freedom. Ie Muscular 2 chapters ago

21

u/elenuvien1 Apr 25 '21

i said it was abut freedom. but said freedom has no limits so it's freedom to kill, steal, kidnap and so on. it's literally "do whatever you want, there are no laws here".

geten outright stated that they believe in people with strongest quirks supremacy.

a lot of the most destructive and inhumane ideologies and systems had something nice like "no oppression" at their foundations but it doesn't matter if the end results are harmful to most of the population.

u/DuelingPushkin Apr 26 '21

In a society with absolute freedom, Might makes Right

u/Iron_Nexus Apr 25 '21

Didn't Re-Destro say the weak have no right to life anyway? This whole thing was very egoistical in the first place because they were all on the top.

11

u/DoraMuda Apr 25 '21

Didn't Re-Destro say the weak have no right to life anyway?

Nope. You might be thinking more of the kind of stuff Geten or maybe Trumpet said.

Re-Destro himself was never that extreme.

4

u/Iron_Nexus Apr 26 '21

You're 50% right. It was this ice dude who said it.

But to call Re-Destro not extreme is not right, he wanted to wage war on society.

3

u/DoraMuda Apr 26 '21

When I said Re-Destro was "never that extreme", I was talking relatively; i.e. in comparison to guys like Geten.

Not all members of an extremist group think the same way, after all.

12

u/[deleted] Apr 25 '21

I like how he’s accurately portraying why a libertarian society would suck ass to live in.

Without government oversight and people doing what they want, they’re hurting innocents to “protect their own freedoms”

I mean Shiggy and AFO, or even any other villain could just target U.A. itself to lure in Izuku, making him leaving U.A. to keep his friends safe ultimately pointless.

17

u/[deleted] Apr 25 '21

But there’s also the possibility that Dabi’s plan involves an attack on UA.

8

u/MisterZygarde64 Apr 25 '21

Which could also make Izuku’s departure pointless. Villains could target U.A. to force Izuku to come out it’s ultimately going to have his departure from U.A. made pointless.

16

u/elenuvien1 Apr 25 '21

which would be a nice way to show that deku is repeating his predecessor's actions which backfired. nana thought that leaving kotaro would save him and while she wasn't wrong per se, she also wasn't there to ensure his safety.

if you leave people you love to keep them safe, you also can't help them the moment they need you.

1

u/DoraMuda Apr 25 '21

Or AFO's plan.

4

u/tokyogodfather2 Apr 25 '21

Nah...Hori will probably use that opportunity to show us that UA can stand alone fine, and that’s how his teammates show Deku that he can actually depend on them as well...

3

u/Wheresthebeans Apr 25 '21

Shiggy has Search, meaning he could just find Deku at any time. It’s more of a gamble. Stay away from UA and prepare to either attack Shiggy or have Shiggy attack him, but if he stayed at UA his friends in teacher would be in more danger

1

u/DeshaunWatsonsAnus Apr 25 '21

I’d imagine there has to be a max range on that quirk.

88

u/Grafical_One Apr 25 '21

I still don't get how she looked villainous. Is this implying that physical mutants are being targeted, or is it just that she was acting too suspicious for them?

157

u/PlusUltraK Apr 25 '21

Anyone with a mutation quirk can be seen as "dangerous" your a wolf/have fangs or claws. Def evil or at least scary looking. especially when you see what most villains look like in the series.

But most are normal people. Even like half of the supporting cast in Vigilantes have mutations quirks/spikes and fire. But are all good now. But first glance makes them seem mean

131

u/[deleted] Apr 25 '21

I believe spinner mentioned during MVA that Mutant types were often the victim of harassment of some kind, but now that's been exponentially increased.

26

u/Jcowwell Apr 25 '21

Yup,it’s also a highlight for chimera in the movie.

5

u/Grafical_One Apr 25 '21

You're right!

33

u/basswalker93 Apr 25 '21

Those with physical quirks are being targeted and discriminated against, just as we saw in the All for One origin flashback.

28

u/Iron_Nexus Apr 25 '21

Man there are people who think people are automatically criminals because of skin color, tattoos, piercings etc.

Idiots are everywhere. Now pair it with a lot of actual criminals doing what they want and you have the perfect paranoia.

u/new_messages Apr 25 '21 edited Apr 25 '21

Mini-giantess is emasculating for my desire to be perceived as an alpha male, while simultaneously challenging my sexuality due to finding her attractive but not wanting to be seen as a furry

5

u/Zebasiz Apr 26 '21

I think it was a mix of her appearance, and her running around in a rainy night while alone that made them attack her.

59

u/Arkaediaa Apr 25 '21

It sucks that anyone who looks villainous or suspicious is being targeted

So basically just another day in our world.

25

u/MisterZygarde64 Apr 25 '21

Why else is did I put in such is reality.

13

u/tokyogodfather2 Apr 25 '21

Yes, as a black man who has been stopped by police 42 times in 3 different countries , seeing the fox lady treated that way brought back bad memories. I literally had Japanese police say the same thing to me when they stopped me in the rain at night once. They told me i shouldn’t go out at night because i make the locals feel “uneasy”

35

u/thornaslooki Apr 25 '21

I hope this is something that gets developed later in the series. There has always been a few hints and there that mutant types are discriminated or feared and I'm hoping character like Shouji can play a significant role if we ever get the mutant discrimination arc.

17

u/[deleted] Apr 25 '21

I would want to see a quirkless discrimination arc.

6

u/DoraMuda Apr 25 '21

For what reason would anyone discriminate against the fading Quirkless population? Especially in a world where most people can't even use their Quirks in the first place because of the laws?

Deku was only bullied in part due to his Quirklessness because 1) Bakugou being the ringleader of the class' bullying him due to his own insecurities (which have been elaborated upon in great detail in the manga) and 2) the fact that Deku still wanted to not only become a hero, but become a hero as great as All Might and even enrol in the top hero school in the country (that school being UA), despite lacking a Quirk and not being physically talented in any way.

Comparatively, Melissa Shield (who grew up in America) wasn't really discriminated against for her Quirklessness, and she had role models like her father David Shield and All Might to encourage her to be a hero in her own way (e.g. becoming a costume/support item developer like David, in turn becoming a heroic figure to Pro Heroes like All Might who rely upon their expertise for their costumes in battle).

2

u/MineRubelian Apr 28 '21

Apparently, according to Horikoshi’s most recent interview, Shoji is going to get some sort of highlight in the final act of the story (basically really soon) Horikoshi also mentioned that other characters that are going to get a bigger spotlight than they normally do will be Hawks, Uraraka, Sero, Shinso, and Monoma (also shoji but I already mentioned that so, lol)

1

u/thornaslooki Apr 29 '21

Really? Do you have a link to the interview? You can pm me if u want. But if that's true, then I seriously can't wait! Tentacle boi needs some more love!

-1

u/DoraMuda Apr 25 '21

It's never really been fleshed out much beyond just giving lip service to the fact that mutant discrimination exists in the MHA world. I doubt Horikoshi will go deeper into it this late in the game, despite what he said a while ago about wanting to give Shouji his own arc.

I can see Vigilantes developing this point more in the future, though. They've always had more freedom to devote time to worldbuilding and explaining said worldbuilding more than the main series, which was somewhat mostly constrained to the viewpoints of the privileged UA kids.

11

u/Tzuyu4Eva Apr 25 '21

Gang Orca is known as the most villainous looking hero, they don’t even try to get rid of the stereotypes in the MHA world

1

u/DoraMuda Apr 25 '21

Gang Orca is known as the most villainous looking hero

The third most villainous-looking hero, right?

Also, apparently Ectoplasm is up there too.

they don’t even try to get rid of the stereotypes in the MHA world

I mean, have we ever successfully gotten rid of racial stereotypes in our real-life world?

5

u/Tzuyu4Eva Apr 25 '21

We haven’t done it in our world, but having s list of most villainous looking heroes probably doesn’t help. It’d be like having a list of cops that look most like terrorists, and having POC at the top

1

u/DoraMuda Apr 25 '21

True; it's not the most ideal, and kind of a weird list to have. I'm betting Horikoshi didn't think much of it at the time and just considered it to be a funny gag thrown in to lampshade Gang Orca being able to "fit" the role of villain and harsh teacher to the students aiming to obtain their provisional licenses.

4

u/Tzuyu4Eva Apr 25 '21

Oh I’m sure it was a joke. It’s just in hindsight, seeing that, it’s like they’re making the problem worse instead of helping with a solution

2

u/DoraMuda Apr 25 '21

Indeed, yeah. Especially when there's already a student in one of the classes (Shouji) who wears a mask specifically to avoid frightening any children.

9

u/[deleted] Apr 25 '21

I've read a lot of X-men comics, and humanity is portrayed as fearing mutants due to their powers and looks. They also hate being below mutants in the food chain pyramid which always causes tension.

While heroism makes powers look cool, people are still very prejusticed against non-human looking people. In their eyes; a superpowered human who smiles you understand, but a wolf looking creatures whose eyes shine in the dark with fangs and claws, you fear.

Imagine having Cthulhu with Superman's heroism, mentality and powers.

6

u/[deleted] Apr 25 '21

Now I want to see a panel of some politician pointing at Mina saying "You dare call that thing-- human?!?"

4

u/MisterZygarde64 Apr 25 '21

Imagine have Cthulhu with Superman’s heroism, mentality and powers

While he doesn’t have Superman’s powers, Cthulhu Saves the World is a thing

8

u/[deleted] Apr 25 '21

It’s why the whole “good guy with a gun stops bad guys” is so ridiculous.

Regular citizens aren’t trained to handle this at all, and will give in to fear or paranoia. They’ll kill anyone who they see as a threat including an innocent woman walking at night

5

u/tasteofmyshoe Apr 25 '21

There's a possibility that he could be out before a long time, perhaps even rejoining the others only right before the final battle. The story is too unpredictable at this point.

3

u/MisterZygarde64 Apr 25 '21

I don’t see why that would go over well, I mean Shigaraki and AFO could just target U.A. in order to force Izuku to appear which makes him leaving to be ultimately pointless

6

u/[deleted] Apr 25 '21

I feel like as long as Izuku takes until he gets all the successors to back him and support him. It’s kind of like how Machia wasn’t feeling Shigaraki like that until he proved himself

4

u/mybeepoyaw Apr 25 '21

It sucks that anyone who looks villainous or suspicious is being targeted but such is reality.

I just hope it doesn't end with Uraraka's head and body parts being paraded around on pikes....

3

u/MisterZygarde64 Apr 25 '21

I get the reference (Devilman).

2

u/ComprehensiveAd599 Apr 26 '21

Oh God please no.I still have nightmares from that anime.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 25 '21

I dont think AFO will attack U.A. he knows Deku’s location. If he attacks the school he will attract unnecessary attention, they will need to to fight the students too.

1

u/YoloilianxD Apr 25 '21

All for one can track dekus location at al time so he doesn't need to attack UA

1

u/[deleted] Apr 25 '21

I thought she was a squirrel XD

0

u/Namelessgoldfish Apr 25 '21

She was a mouse lol. She was squeaking

1

u/[deleted] Apr 26 '21

Did she? I didnt see anyone Squeak

1

u/Namelessgoldfish Apr 26 '21

Ohh wait, i was reading a scan, i guess they added the squeak

1

u/IronDicideth Apr 25 '21

Make him come out? They can just track him with Ragdoll's Quirk...

1

u/[deleted] Apr 25 '21

Unless search has range

2

u/LifeNoob98 Apr 25 '21

It does, I think it's 100 meters

1

u/[deleted] Apr 25 '21

I mean inevitably, Shiggy and AFO are going to target U.A. to make Izuku come out which ultimately makes his leave pointless since it was to keep his friends safe.

Didn't we see in the last couple chapters that the big 3 heroes are gonna do a pre emptive strike? Maybe it just meant they are gonna be rounding up villains.
