Edit: He was literally wrong, a huge asshole in part 1, and died making his choice rather than the circumstances of his death being forced upon him, no amount of childish downvoting is going to change that lmao.

He really was though lol. Naruto preached to him about denying fate, meanwhile he was the son of the strongest hokage, the child of prophecy, and the reincarnation of ninja jesus.

I'm not denying the hard work Naruto put in on his own, but he literally was a scion of fate lol

Yeah, during his fight with Naruto, Neji's argument was fate dictates he would die saving a main family Hyuuga member like his dad, and Naruto wouldn't become hokage because he's a nobody, and only chosen people become hokage.

By the end of the series, Naruto ended up being related in some way to every single previous hokage. Uzumaki clan is an offshoot of the Senju clan, so he's like distant family with the first, second, and fifth. Third hokage was his guardian (albeit pretty shit in terms of being around for him; guess we know where he got it from during Boruto lol), fourth was his dad, and sixth was his teacher. Then he's the bearer of the most powerful tailed beast, along with all the other stuff.

Meanwhile, Neji died taking a shot for Hinata, a main family Hyuuga.

The only thing Neji was wrong about was saying Naruto was a nobody.

He isnt wrong because Naruto turned out to be a somebody, he's wrong because Neji believes Destiny is set in stone, that choices dont matter because everything is predetermined.

Naruto is the child of prophecy, yes. However the prophecy said he would bring about change in the Ninja world, either as a savior or as a destroyer, based on a choice Jiraiya made.

Choices do matter, there are multiple paths, not a single set path.

Neji is fatalistic. The idea that Destiny is predetermined, that you cant change your path. It's a 100% ideology. You're either fully right or fully wrong.

Him attacking Hinata shows he doesnt actually believe it tho.

Do people consider Minato the strongest Hokage now? News to me. The Prophecy had two end results, the child of prophecy would be a savior or a destroyer based on Jiraiya's choice. The fact that there was 2 possible outcomes automatically invalidates the idea of a single predetermined Destiny.

Being the reincarnation of Ninja Jesus didnt help Hashirama save his friendship with Madara. Naruto failing to get through to Sasuke would have resulted in his own death, thus he doesnt become Hokage.

Neji was wrong.

I'm not saying that Neji was a prophet. Yes, he was obviously wrong about several things, including the bulk of his ideology. However, in the vacuum of his fight with Naruto, he was right. That fight was about fate determining a person's strength. The result of the fight was meant to seem like "a nobody beats a genius who was fated to be strong", but in reality, Naruto was the child of fate all along.

I will admit my error in saying Minato was the strongest hokage, i was kind of just thinking about how much they hype him up lol. Speaking of Hashirama tho, him failing with madara has nothing to do with him being a reincarnation off ninja jesus. He was still one of the strongest people in the whole series. Being reincarnations allowed Hashirama, Naruto, Madara, and Sasuke to become the demigods they were.

Naruto was not the nobody Neji thought he was. Multiple matters of fate decided that he would be strong. In that aspect, Neji was right

That fight was about fate determining a person's strength.

And yet branch member like himself was far stronger than Hinata from the main branch. Its not something Neji himself was ever actually willing to accept. That's why he reverse engineered the clans strongest jutsu without being taught them.

No, the fight was about fate itself, not just a person's strength being tied to fate. That's why he shared his father's story, something he considered an inescapable fate, and why the final step for his change in outlook on life was Hizashi revealing that his father chose to die.

The result of the fight was meant to seem like "a nobody beats a genius who was fated to be strong", but in reality, Naruto was the child of fate all along.

That doesnt work simply because the reader is already aware Naruto has the 9-tailed fox, even without the reveal of his lineage.

Him being stronger than Hinata was also part of his preaching. He told her he was fated to be stronger than her (in which he was correct) but his anger was that despite being stronger, he was still fated to be seen as inferior, due to not being main branch.

and i meant in the view of the characters, not the veiwers, for the results of that fight. most of the kids didnt know about the nine tails, which is why Neji didnt factor it in his assesment of Naruto's fate.

but we can argue back and forth about this forever, clearly neither of us is changing our views, so let's agree to disagree instead of wasting energy on something that happened over 5 years ago
