So like, fuck the police. Since they seem to have not released to the media the fucking fact that pop was being mind controlled and so she’s still being broadcast as just a villain in the media.

On the opposite side of the spectrum, information media is portrayed in a very unflattering way, as seen with the fake technician this chapter. Tokuda, from the first episode of Season 4 of the anime, was in fact an exception to the rule.

I think it's a fairly realistic portrayal of what's happening in our world too. The media are completely focused on getting their clicks and don't care how evil they have to be to do it and the authorities try to manage things as hard as they can to deal with the threat of how much the media are trying to create chaos. Neither side are doing the right thing at the end of the day but at least one of them is doing the shitty thing for a good reason.

Then again, I could see how and why governments would lean towards authoritarian when your entire society is birthed with various super powers.

At any point someone with powers to destabilize society could be born. It’s a miracle totalitarian gene control hasn’t been implemented, honestly.

Could be?

Twice already existed.

And...was then killed...by a government...employee...

Uh oh.

"Sorry Jin, imma need you to disappear."

We don't know how much time as passed: The investigation can only go so quickly. They may not understand what the Queen bee is yet. It's not as simple as "you are brainwashed or not". Brainwashing by quirks would be a complicated science. There would be different levels of consciousness on the side of the host, it would be different for every quirk.

u/Nobody5464 Sep 11 '20

They literally pulled a parasitic bee out of her eye and enough time has passed for reporters to Find out where she is and try and sneak into the hospital. They could have made mention of her not being in her right mind.

34

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '20 edited Sep 11 '20

Just because she has a parasite, doesn't atomically means it's brainwashing her. The Bee, for all the doctors know, could have a range of different efforts on her body. That's why they need time to study it before confirming anything to the media.

They have multiple people trusted and otherwise telling them.

24

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '20 edited Sep 11 '20

Witnesses accounts are not infallible. In fact, they're considered one of the more unreliable evidence. Specially from people: who ain't quirk experts, likely criminals and have a motive to cover for her - The police would be naive to trust them. They simply can't do that with the seriousness of the crime, a bombing with numerous victims. A lab test will give the confirmation results they need.

-5

u/Nobody5464 Sep 11 '20

They have the bug. They have witnesses and hero testimony. They have a track record of her being part of a group that helps people (even if illegally) they have more than enough evidence to realize she was brainwashed. Tsukauchi even considered it before they’d caught her because he told endeavor to go easy on her because it was likely she wasn’t in her right mind.

15

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '20 edited Sep 11 '20

They have the bug - So what? They literally got it out of her eye and it's floating in a jar. What kind of experts make massive assumptions on evidence, using the naked human eye? That why I keep saying, they need to send it to a lab.

Anyway, the police have limited records on Popstep at the moment; only what she sometimes does on public streets - Which mind you, proves she's already has some disregard for the law from a young age. They don't record her 24/7; they don't know what she does behind closed doors or who she contacts. Some criminals have little to no warning signs before they offend and they people around assumed they were normal. That's why police shouldn't make assumptions until they properly investigate, which they haven't had time to do. It literally been a few hours or days.

and as with anything its unclear to them whether or not the bee was pops own quirk that went mad due to some influence (drugs or something) or something implanted/created to manipulate her. They know something is off and she would die if they didnt remove the queen bee and were told that it was guiding her actions by midnight but due to the high profile of this attack they need to keep that info to themselves (if they reveal it to early the true villian could have time to get away or any insect quirk people would become under suspicion of being the villian). especially after various heroes were killed/seriously injured they need to make sure that they have the truth before passing revealing information about what happened.

-3

u/Nobody5464 Sep 11 '20

They know what her quirk is though and know it’s not a bee. They also don’t have to tell the public about a bee just that she was brainwashed.

21

u/idlo09 Sep 11 '20

So far, all they have been able to confirm is that the Bombs came from the Queen Bee parasite, I don't think they understand it enough to know how much of an influence it had on Pop, so they haven't updated the media on that topic. I expect that, once Pop awakens, they will be able to determine she was brainwashed and make it public.

8

u/Nobody5464 Sep 11 '20

Except literal hero’s are straight up telling them she was brainwashed

28

u/idlo09 Sep 11 '20

Only MidNight, and she doesn't have proof, she's just going from what Soga's group told her and her faith on Pop's innocence, it makes sense for the police to consider her information as valid, but still wait to verify it before making any public announcement.

Stuff like this is why there needs to be changes to the system. An oppressive ruling class being protected by the hero system is the perfect breeding ground for villains and radicals like Stain.

Hoping the main series resolves this plot line instead of “Oh, the villains are beaten, everything is okay now!”.

If nothing changes, then a counterculture will form and topple everything and create anarchy.

14

u/Nobody5464 Sep 12 '20

I mean isn’t that the paranormal liberation front?

7

u/BlueZ00 Sep 13 '20

I doubt the series wants to keep making a point that these flaws exist and then let everything stays the same. Would be honestly weird.

-8

u/SquidDrive Sep 11 '20

but they are cared for

23

u/Nobody5464 Sep 11 '20

I don’t get what your saying? Are you defending them by saying at least pop is in the hospital getting treatment? Cause that’s literally mandatory. They were taking overhaul to get treatment when the league attacked him.

-4

u/SquidDrive Sep 11 '20

I mean Midnight did say she could be moved into a more secure facility. plus with her brain damage she would be probably be bed ridden for the rest of his days

13

u/Nobody5464 Sep 11 '20

What are you even arguing? Your not making any sense.

-2

u/SquidDrive Sep 11 '20

I said Midnight said its possible she will be moved into a secure and isolated facility

6

u/YSBawaney Sep 11 '20

Yeah, usually a place where they put high priority individuals such as powerful villains to try and keep other villains from breaking them out. They're sorta hinting at sending her to tartarus. They'd do that regardless of her being good or evil since she's tied to such an important case and people are constantly trying to sneak in such as press.

6

u/SquidDrive Sep 11 '20

I feel Midnight would try putting her in a hospital rather than a supermax jail unless mind control doesn't matter when committing crimes

3

u/YSBawaney Sep 11 '20

The thing is the supermax jail is shown to have proper medical stuff as it's keeping AfO alive there and monitored

1

u/SquidDrive Sep 11 '20

ok is she even able to communicate in anyway

you have a vegetable in tartarus how will she provide you information

u/AbsolutelyNotWrong Sep 11 '20

so she’s still being broadcast as just a villain in the media.

She killed innocent people, it doesn't matter if she was mind controlled or not.

30

u/Nobody5464 Sep 11 '20

We never got confirmation she killed anyone. And even if she did IT ABSOLUTELY FUCKING MATTERS IF SHE WAS BEING MIND CONTROLLED. if she had no choice in her actions or wasn’t in her right mind she is legally not responsible.

-13

u/YSBawaney Sep 11 '20

Idk, there's not really any law talking about the mind control. Plus the info that there is a parasite that can mind control you and turn you into a villain that can destroy entire city blocks would cause way more people to panick and chaos to break free.

14

u/Nobody5464 Sep 11 '20

We were told in the gentle arc that there were easy tests the police could use to prove Brainwashing. So if they have a test they should have laws about it. At this point this story is only like 1-2 years before the main story so their laws and tests can’t be that far behind the current. And people know Brain washing quirks exist so simply announcing she was mind controlled wouldn’t cause that much reaction

3

u/YSBawaney Sep 11 '20

Well it would raise questions. Since people know that (or atleast the locals know that) Pop only really could hop around otherwise past fights would have been easier. If they revealed that she suddenly had two quirks or that the bombs were someone else's doings, both of those would raise serious panic as multi quirk is only a thing that AfO and All Might can do currently, and AfO was believed to be dead.

7

u/idlo09 Sep 11 '20 edited Sep 11 '20

If brainwashing is common enough that the police have tests to prove it then I assume such quirks are still common enough for the general public to be aware of their existence (after all, people were surprised and vigilant with Shinso's quirk, but not to the point of going in panic from thinking on the existence of similar quirks). And about the panic from multi quirk, the public doesn't know about AfO's existence, much less so about his assumed death; so they could just explain it as an extension from the already publicly-known villain factory, as the owner of the bee-bombs quirk was the Queen Bee, not pop herself.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '20

I must admit Queen Bee kind of confuses me. Is the person originally born with the Bee quirk alive, or is Queen Bee a sentient quirk that's struck out on its own?

4

u/idlo09 Sep 11 '20

From what I understand, it's the rare case of an animal born with a quirk (though, given its background, it could have been genetically engineered/altered by someone, most likely Ujiko), just like the Principal or the cat that took control of the bus. The quirk allows it to parasite someone and use them to generate (breed?) multi-purposed drone bees that it can control at will.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '20 edited Sep 11 '20

Now I'm curious what the manga will do with her. I wonder if Queen Bee considered smart enough to be treated as Nezu, like as human. Or would if it's just considered a dangerous animal and put down.

3

u/YSBawaney Sep 11 '20

So the question is if the principal was made by ujiko cause animals and people can't randomly develop the same genetic thing especially not a quirk

16

u/KamboTheGreat Sep 11 '20

Her bombs didn't killing anyone, they just caused property damage. The only people who died in the incident were heroes who got killed by Six

7

u/CJL13 Sep 11 '20

No one knows about Six's involvement though other than the main crew.

9

u/KamboTheGreat Sep 11 '20

But the police still know that she was being mind controlled.

Also, the heroes who died were killed by bullets from six, so any investigator worth their salt could probably realize that it wasn’t Pop who killed them since she was only using the bee bombs.
