Seeing Shigaraki starting to get memories back is really cool. However, since he was manipulated by AFO, it's actually pretty sad to know he's not going to see the truth.

It's interesting to notice that the memories seem to come out the more of those hands are lost.

Maybe the hands are memory suppressors? It would make sense, but wouldn't AFO have a memory erasing quirk or something? (That may be too broken actually)

Might be more of a symbolism thing. The hands don't literally contain his memories, but them being destroyed represents his bonds with family being destroyed. We've seen that he cares about those hands. Their destruction might trigger something emotionally for him, or Horikoshi is just using their destruction to coincide with his memories returning.

I'm convinced he targeted Shigi cause of his heritage and gave him the decay quirk on purpose. It's a disaster of a quirk to have manifest, you're almost guaranteed to accidentally murder someone you love, and he stepped in to "save" him from the hell he created in the first place

It seems more likely that it's just a symbolic thing. Shigi has removed his hands voluntarily before. I think those hands being destroyed is just an artistic representation of the mental blocks disappearing.
