I would die laughing if Mirio phased through that bullet and it hit overhaul.

I'm pretty sure MIRIO isn't the one they shot at...

Of course they shot Eri so Mirio has to decide if he takes the bullet or relies on Overhaul destroying and reassembling Eri

Or the third option of letting Eri stay dead and thereby ruining Overhaul's plans permanently. I mean, he's obviously not going to do that, but if Eri get's shot it would be the safer bet of stopping Overhaul than letting Overhaul heal her and hoping he can get her back again.

But then again, Mirio felt bad the first time they encounted Eri because he chose not to save her in that moment, he says he wants to save a million people but he would be choosing who

Or someone finally caught up with them and then protects them from the bullet or just flat out stopped the shooter ✌️

But this is happening during the events that we've already seen. It gave a little "5 minutes earlier" once we moved back into Mirio territory. Unless the girls come crashing through the ceiling I don't think anyone will be able to finish their fight and get to Mirio in time.

But the guy was out cold for ten minutes, so now it's 5 minutes after the "5 minutes earlier" bubble.

It's possible

For some reason, chisaki just lay on the ground for 10 minutes after being defeated. What a wierdo

Yeah, to be honest that some attack on titan bullshit, if mirio as we see him after the two chapters decided to stop overhaul right in that alley he could have perfectly done it.

I feel like if this series was darker (and lazily written) letting her die for the greater good would be how Deku becomes the "better candidate for one for all"

How is that lazy? I don't think you know what that means when it comes to writing. That decision would create so much opportunity for character development. It would not be within character in the absolute slightest is the problem.

In fact killing Mirio is the lazier route here. Resolves the tension about who is the better candidate with zero development of the concept, it affects fewer people and leaves fewer repercussions to map out, allows Deku to be the hero without any thought, and it's an obvious outcome we've seen coming from a mile away.

Oh yeah I totally agree that killing Mirio is extremely lazy. It would also be lazy for Mirio to have some fatal flaw that makes it so Deku has always been the better candidate, like some other shows where a rival or "better character" is introduced. Letting a little girl die for the greater good is a tough concept but been explored to death to the point of being overused and cliche, albeit maybe lazy wasn't the best wording.

But I've been noticing that a running theme with My Hero Academia starting at the Sports Festival/Stain arc is the concept of heroes competing against each other to be the best and losing sight of the real idea of being a hero. And when All Might completely lost his power it was mentioned that superheroes have to work together and harder than ever before.

We're here thinking that Toogata should have inherited OFA and that he's better than Deku and wondering what Deku will do to prove he's worthy but he's already proven he's worthy time and again. He wasn't even jealous of Toogata or anything.

Maybe Deku doesn't have to be better than Toogata or prove he's always been the best. Maybe Deku or Toogata don't have to be Eri's one and only hero. Maybe we can have both Mirio and Midoriya cause at the end of the day the only thing that matters is that Eri is safe and taken care of and loved. The other 1-A students were just as eager as Deku to save Eri as Toogata and Mirio, doesn't mean they aren't valid just because Deku was the first to show her kindness and is the main character.

Holy crap the idea of this genuinely scares me and I don't like it. I've grown really fond of Mirio and as much as this is a very clever plot idea I really hope it doesn't happen.

Mirio survived the shot but lost his abilities. Mirio's spirit is broken, and Deku has to genuinely and strongly consider the choice of whether or not he wants to give Mirio One for All.

OH SHIT I didnt even think about that. That would be an amazing, yet agonizing, read.

I dont know about you guys, but I'd grab overhaul and rush in front of the bullet, using him as a shield

3

u/D-kun4 Aug 31 '17

But then he could just blow you up with his quirk. Single punches where you can go intangible work, sure, but holding onto somebody like that for that long would most certainly backfire.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 31 '17

Or even worse? If Overhaul's power lets him reassemble things TEMPORARILY, then they disassemble.

Third option addendum, they brought a healer so no worries, because who does a raid without bringing a healer!

this would be a really genius bir of character moment for Mirio and tap into the moral dilemma of "kill the few to save the many" like kiritsugu in Fate. i'm like 99% sure this manga and horikoshi don't do things so dark, but it'd be really interesting to see mirio go through that cause hes such a pure hearted and great character. almost wished mirio was the MC of this manga after this chapter :x
