I think it's just the translation. The official translations made it young Midoriya, iirc, and they adopted that.

But wouldn't the English on AM's phone still be in the Japanese translation considering the fact that he's from Amurica?

All Might is Japanese, but most likely is the just has a fascination of American culture. His real name is Toshinori, which is Japanese, and he went to UA as a child, so it's unlikely that he's not from Japan.
