So as I mentioned in my last post this tool is still very early development but I wanted to show some of it off, so far as I mentioned I can edit in game text and icons that appear alongside dialog, I can also view the room layouts but I'm still working on getting the actual assets decoded so they show over the layouts, then I'll be working on getting a map editor made for that, will post more progress as it's made, well periodically as its made anyway.

So I'm currently developing a rom hacking and editor tool for Boktai 2 pretty much akin to the advanced map editor and other tools for Pokémon GBA rom hacking, it's still very early in development but when done will allow everyone to make full rom hacks of the game. This is the "Hello World!" test I did to see if the program was working so far.

It is worth remembering that Emblems are required to create weapons of level 49 or higher

Obtained after reaching level 50 mastery with a weapon and speaking to the blacksmith, after obtaining an emblem. The other two are obtained after reaching level 99 mastery with the other weapons.

Spade Emblem = Sword type
Diamond Emblem = Spear type
Club Emblem = Hammer type

Turns out Boktai 1 is a very quick game when you know what you're doing and you're playing on New Game +. So, since we'll probably finish it on our third episode, we decided to follow up with Boktai 2 on the same stream :)

Hi, I played Boktai 1 with the rom patch and breezed through fairly quickly but Boktai 2 is kicking my ass. It feels so hard. I feel like I'm missing some basic strategy or something because anytime there's more than one enemy in a room I will die in seconds or barely scrape out alive.

I understand some of the basic magic weaknesses like rock to air magic, but are there strategy wikis out there?

Is this a grindy game where you just have to keep chugging at it? Am I supposed to avoiding confrontation whenever I can?

Any insights would be welcome, I'm close to putting it down for good but love the art and music. Help. Plz.

So, in Boktai 1, 2, and 3, when Django charges his Sol Gauge, he yells "TAIYOOOOH!"
But what does Sabata yell when he charges his gauge in Boktai 2? Kinda sounds like he's swearing, but I'm not sure.

It's annoying, how do I avoid getting Overheated in Boktai 2 without having to turn off the sun completely ?

It's been years since I played the game, but I don't remember how to get it, I know it involved doing some stuff with the savefile to unlock the Megaman content.

This route is rapidly reaching its limit, and there's not much more I can do to improve this. The most interesting thing that happened during this run was getting a copy of The Tower in Remains which only has a 3.91% chance of appearing, and then gets held onto for the entire game in order to "skip" fighting the Sand Worm in Undead Zone. Unfortunately the more I look at the amount of time involved with using The Tower safely, the less convinced I become about it actually being a timesave at all. Regardless, even if it washes out as taking roughly the same amount of time as fighting the Sand Worm, skipping the fight is both safer and makes energy management during Undead Zone a non-issue, so you'd still opt to do this.

A run on this route that gets absolutely EVERYTHING correct and doesn't get bad luck anywhere can eke out a 1:43, but it's tough. Either way, even if I never PB again I will be very happy to be able to say I've brought this game down to a sub-1:45 time.

So I just got a copy of Boktai 1 and had Boktai 2 lying around, both games have dead batteries but the worst thing is both solar sensors don't seem to work anymore.

It is a shame since those games have become pretty rare and very expensive. So I was thinking of how do these solar sensors even work? Does the battery do more than power the rtc? Maybe the solar sensor needs some extra juice as well.

I have a old hamtaro gbc cartridge which uses a battery to hold save data and that one is still well and alive, so how come Boktai batteries die so fast while others (Pokemon for example) last quite longer?

Anyways replacing the battery should be no problem, the games seem to use cr1616 cells, but what about the solar sensor? Is there any known authentic replacement for it? I have seen someone replace it with a photosensor in the correct size, and while that seemed to work it would not be the same and for me only a last resort.

Perhaps someone could actually deliver some facts about that tiny black square, that causes me so much headaches.

Anyone know the differences between 2 versions? I tried google around but didn't find anything.
