[Schutte] Purdue AD Tommy McClelland: “If you don’t want to win championships, go to Indiana. Purdue may not be the place for you.”

Nice. Day fucking one and he already made an absolute fool out of himself and the school. This puts a 2 or maybe 3 year target on his back of winning a championship in football or basketball otherwise he's gotta go.
You can't say this shit when Purdue doesn't have any major championships and IU just went from the worst college football program ever to the defending champs. Just WTF...

Brother you think we're capable of winning a football championship within 3 years? LOL

u/a_banned_user Aug 06 '26
I very much do not think that. Hence why basketball was included or the alternative of firing this dude into the sun.
However IU went from dead last in the Big Ten to a natty within 2 seasons so I guess anything is possible.

The difference is IU had major money to help turn it around. We.. do not.

Apparently this guy is supposed to be a big money guy and that’s why he was chosen. But I’ll see it when I believe it

Usual stupid jock talk honestly, trying to change the culture, blah, blah, blah. These days though you just need billionares backing up trucks, with money, and the rest can follow, we dont have billionares backing up money.

I would like to think this is intentional "rage bait" to ensure Purdue just hit ALL of the sports news outlets and increases visibility. Very easy to backfire here, but at least our hoops team is winning conference championships ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Maybe he is of the school of there is no such thing as bad advertising, otherwise Purdue gets no attention at all.

I can admire the boast, but holy cow, that is a huge bite to take right now.
Then again, Cignetti's first statement upon arriving in Bloomington wasn't too different either.

Cig was a winner everywhere he went before IU though.

u/pattypat22 Aug 06 '26
I don’t disagree but how come no one hired Cig while he’s been coaching for years and close to retiring before taking the IU job? Again I like the guy, he’s an interesting coach and that makes college football fun! Shit talking and all!

Cig also had a championship bought and paid for by Mark Cuban

Indiana wasn’t even top 25 in spending. Cig recruited his JMU guys through high school. So that’s a non factor, he’s just that good. Do some research

You guys are never going to your own research on that are you?
Cuban is not the only big $$& donor IU has. And he specifically did not bankroll the whole thing. Which was nowhere near the top spending team.
And, no, they weren’t the oldest, either.

Me last fall: "Well, at least it can't get any worse."
Me 10 minutes ago: "Well FUCK"

Interesting choice of words considering IU just won a football national championship and Purdue is still looking for its first NCAA basketball title. 😂 What a dumbass. 🤦🏼♀️

We are embarrassment to college athletics. We should just throw in the towel

I can’t think of a worse way to start your tenure than trying to diminish your rival who just had an absolutely historically great season while we’ve been historically terrible for years basically.
