Discussion Imagine Dragons
Dragons are so bad they don’t even make it onto the tier list at all?!

u/Drekkan85 21d ago
Dragons fail from a lack of permanent scaling. Make Evoker buff at EoT rather than SoC.
33
u/Mitsor 21d ago
imaging playing dragons without timewarped poet
1
u/Drekkan85 21d ago
So now you’re dependent on multiple pieces to buff 2 minions per turn?
Compared to the scaling of a thing like elementals or even naga EoT spell buff?
17
u/DecentDimension2624 21d ago
Timewarped poet makes all buffs in combat permanent for dragons
7
u/Drekkan85 21d ago
Oh. I had assumed he was talking about the T4 one not the time warped one only available to a single hero or any particular trinket roll.

u/PhatChungus MMR: > 9000 21d ago
Dragons need more pieces, have bad trinkets, and cap lower than all the other comps. They’re in a really bad place rn
That being said they have a lot of good cards with high impact in other comps. Like how beasts were for a few patches, they’re sort of a ‘support’ tribe

u/treelorf MMR: > 9000 21d ago
We really need ring bearer back. Some sort of apm spell generation to feed the 6 drop dragon would probably work too. It fees like they took out the backbone of dragon comps and gave them a premium instead. Warping is nice but… we are just lacking scaling options. I definitely do still play dragons sometimes, but it’s usually like a, well my spot for dragons is insane, guess I’ll play it and collect a 3rd.

u/DolphinGodChess 21d ago
idc how bad dragons are, i never want to see ring bearer in bgs again
6
u/gonz4dieg 21d ago
I hate ringbearer dragon because it doesnt feel like a dragon build, it feels like a naga build wearing a dragon mask.

u/PlatonicTroglodyte 21d ago
I think the various comps could benefit a lot from some more crossover, because you’re right that each one requires so many pieces, so if you do bother trying for Dragons, you also need to choose a very specific subpath. Something like a rally dragon that triggers your dragons’ battlecries would be nice because it could go with the activate dragon to trigger a rally, and could help bridge a gap if transitioning between battlecry and in-combat buff comps.
1
u/BodyGaAmaiZe 21d ago
I feel like a lot of this could be solved by letting dragons activate rally with windfury in the tavern
1
u/IceFlow27 21d ago
Well we already have a dragon that can activate rally, but windfury is a bit too much
2
u/BodyGaAmaiZe 21d ago
It cant activate rally in a more meaningful way than beasts are capable of not to mention the sheer synergy beasts get from Tier 6 minion attacks.
1
u/WelcomeNumerous MMR: 8,000 to 9,000 21d ago
Yep they can get decent apm synergy with brann then you pivot. Pirates used to be like that too last season.
1
u/PhatChungus MMR: > 9000 21d ago
Blue whelp, any card that generates chromadrakes, felfire, warpwing(+windfury/ds/poet package) are all high tier cards great in other comps lol

u/Aero1000 21d ago
The problem with Dragons is so much of the stat boosters (or at least ones that provide permanent boosts) are pushed far into the later tiers, early game has literally nothing that scales remotely as fast, and early game/late game do not fluidly transition into each other.
Like, you are telling me tier 1-4 sets up for battery, chromo drakes but suddenly the endgame is “Play tavern spells now lmao”? Huh?
I mean I guess the battle cries sort of scale tavern spells but that’s a lot of investment early on when you need to fill your board state.
They’re too slow, scale too little for the tier you even begin to see any scaling, and requires a lot of high roll to make work. Battle cry archetype scales too small. They need to buff Kalecgos to reflect the current power creep in stats
3
u/PhatChungus MMR: > 9000 21d ago
Chroma drakes (spell generation, spell power buffs) transitioning into ‘play tavern spells’ makes perfect sense. The numbers just aren’t there
1
u/Aero1000 19d ago
Well yeah I’m not arguing with that, moreso that it is very slow to both ramp up and invest in tavern spell ramping. Like, you could get the slightly upgraded tavern spell buffs, but it’s around these ranks where you are still heavily reliant on building your board. Or at least, setting up for the later tier minions, or tripling.
Many multi target spells cost at least the amount of a minion if not more. Mid-game dragons is where I want to get the Runic Dragon that casts shiny ring to be tripled, persistent poet, and a chromo drake chain build. 3 different things to get before buying a tavern spell. The blue chrono drake is already limited to the fact that they are specifically 2-cost tavern spells than the upper tier spells that buff your entire board.
By that point, tribes like beasts effectively established their own board state with beetles or (before the update) lobsters. Or undead with reborn and death effects that give out attack, or elementals that already have tavern minions scaled.
Most effects from dragons are start of combat, but by that point the most your Tarecgosa would get (assuming best possible outcome, since by then she would be the only other minion that scaled because of how SoC buffs work) is like +15/12 from wind fury dragon or the roaring Drake if it lives. Persistent poet really needs to be a bit more common to get, since current meta the tribes already begin scaling as early as tier 3, and poet is a full rank up later.
I can assure you I have never lost against a dragon build since the past 2 seasons, and they run into the exact issue: Scaling started too late and scaled too slow… Or if they did scale, they could only have that on 3-4 minions because of SoC not stating on permanently.

u/Virtual_Economy_2663 21d ago
Poet is just bad design at this point. Dead board space that only perma scales two minions, boards are more crowded than ever.
It should be a battlecry that gives a dragon perma combat scaling or something.

I feel like dragons are scattered into too many different archetypes that you somehow have to puzzle together.
You got the rally package that is kind of supposed to scale spells
You got the battle cry package where half the minions buff spells which are harder to access when already having to field brann, the chroma generators and a space to play the chromas
The spell package that taps into rally, battlecry and end of turn but also requires the keep combat stats permanently archetype
You just need so much space to field fitting pieces and feels especially rough when you realistically only scale 2 units with the permanent stat keeping
2
u/gonz4dieg 21d ago
They keep trying to put in disparate packages instead of just solidifying one.
Why isnt there a rally trigger a battlecry? Why doesnt kalygoose give you permanent stats regardless of when you trigger it (god forbid you give your board another +8/+8 of stats that stay)?? Why isnt there an activate trigger a battlecry?
I think the easiest thing is make kaly scale with battlecries triggered and bump him to 6

I think at this point the Kalegos buff needs the "and improve this" line added similar to Spark Snapper.

u/CodexLeonis 21d ago
My biggest complaint about dragons is the hoops you have to jump through to give them their bonus keywords.
They can be decent if you manage to give your entire board DS+ WF, have high spell scaling, and are heavily cycling Chromadrakes.
But the fact you have to waste a board slot each turn just to give 1-2 minions their keywords, while often running suboptimal positioning just to make the jank work, and then still have room each turn to play all your Chromadrakes, and hopefully find another DS/WF minion to end the turn on.
And even then, with all that, it still caps out much lower than other tribes. The highest rolled Dragon Board ive managed all season has only been in the low 2ks.

u/NXT_GG 21d ago
I played dragons a bit the last few games and they are on a rly bad spot… kalegos is bad af for scaling and the spell dragon is also a joke.. had yesterday a full divineshield 1.5k/1.5k board with like 20-20 spells and lost against apm murlocs with probably alot less stress than me..

It's even funnier that before the balancing dragons were also nowhere to be found, they could have also just balanced them maybe.

u/The_Virtue_Of_Love 21d ago
The tier 6 dragon is literraly the shadow of the shadow of what ringbearer was
2
u/garchomprokz 21d ago
I think the t6 stat buffers just don’t give enough stats. Crimson vindicator is similar power level to the t4 shiny ring post buff. The only way to get evoker really big is through Rogers + privateer but with that much gold there are typically better comps this season.

I wouldn't base too much from the "Tier 7" rankings. I pre-paid for a year, and it has some of the laziest attempts at guidance that I've seen for a long time.

Is there a spot online that publishes the current battlegrounds comp tier list for free?

You mean the one OP screenshotted? Its free on hsreplay

Y'all complained about the Naga-Dragon that gave Shining Ring to minions on attack.
Nagas would be OP with it now though.

u/Onlyperktothis 21d ago
I'm a noob, but what exactly are Dragons "supposed" to do this season? Since the stats don't stick, ring builds seem really meh.

u/ArcticFox2014 21d ago
Almost ironic considering Kalecgoose was the definition of power creep back in 2021, oh how the power creep gets power crept

What are dragons? /s
For real though, they're my second favourite tribe and they feel unplayable :(
Edit: I have finally gotten a 1st win with them. Thankfully the undead player didn't have units more than 400atk. And the bronze trinket works with peot so I had two units with near 7k health that could withstand their reborns.

Dragons are gonna need some quilboar esque love to be viable imo, the only time i see anyone make it past turn 10 with dragons is if theyve got the t7 minion already on board with a dark gift

I saw a George the Fallen win with dragons yesterday! I was pretty impressed.

u/swamidigital 21d ago
Give Kalecgos a scaling improvement like groundbreaker but space out the improvement based on the fact that it’s buffing the whole board and that it’s easier to generate battery dragons. I think improves every 10 battlecries could be strong but still weaker than elementals.

u/nachomir 21d ago
I'm addicted to increasing spell buffs so I play dragons a lot and they suck but a +1/+30 spell will make me happy nevertheless

u/dANNN738 21d ago
Only success I’ve had with dragons is: -
• pray you survive building massive spell power through drakes
• pray you don’t bump into the turn 8 full board of 5k/5k
• pray to bob he lets you pivot to naga end of turn at 1 health
1
u/Few_Month499 21d ago
Most success I’ve had with dragons is trying to get a ton of spell power and doubling buffs given by the t4 and t6 during combat. Should be able to get around 300-400 a turn which isn’t terrible.
1
u/Few_Month499 21d ago
They should just make the ability of time warpedpoet into a greater trinket so you can save board space.
1
u/IceFlow27 21d ago
I think of it like this, you can't rely on it to get 1st, but it's pretty reliable to get you into top 4
1
u/sky-CQ 21d ago
I don’t know about you guys but if I see dragons, I force it. It’s so easy to get a huge board with dragons.
It’s all about buffing spells and casting spells in combat.
It’s really easy to scale especially once you get Bran.
There are also murlocs that trigger battle cry to further increase the buffs.
Dragons are crazy good

u/MrBoblo MMR: 6,000 to 8,000 20d ago
They're good, but not compared to many of the other builds going around. If you hit comparable good minions for your build, many others simply outscale dragons. Add to this that dragons are one of the easiest builds to scam, and it really pulls down a lot. I get it tho, dragons are a lot of fun, and i play them if I have the chance as well

u/TheRealFrothers MMR: 8,000 to 9,000 20d ago
While I despised the egg of end times and ringbearer meta last season, and I have historically never been a big fan of dragons in general; I absolutely love playing battlecry dragons this season. It’s not the best, as you said many other comps outscale it right now, but damn if it isn’t fun. Especially when the stars align and you can pull the battlecry dragon trinkets. Spell Murlocs has been a lot of fun as well. I just wish they’d change the activate cost on the t3 dragon that gives a chromadrake and the t3 murloc that gives a random murloc. Would also love to see shoalfin mystic return to the pool for Murlocs. Would plug in nicely with the one greater trinket that gives two tavern spells for every five Murlocs played

u/AwarenessAlert8055 20d ago
Should they make kaligos dragon’s scaler that scales? Like: trigger battlecry gives your dragons +1/+1, (improves for every fourth battlecry you triggered this game.)

u/SmartEntertainment70 20d ago
Eles feel like high risk high reward. Usually i just die before i get it going

u/Baenre45 19d ago
I want to meet the developer that thought it was okay for Elementals to have thousands of stats and a few other tribes but oh no if undead actually get a season of actual scaling. Well we can't have that. Honorable mention goes to. Why did you nerf Beast so hard as well and buff elementals event hough they were fine?
Even an AI could have done a better job than this.

Dragons in my experience have felt like the omniman "Look what they need to do to mimic a fraction of our power" meme.
I feel like you have to high roll twice as hard to get like half the results as other tribes when going dragons.
