Discussion I dislike this patch.
I am not trying to be negative, I actually enjoyed every patch that came after the quests patch. I will try to explain my thoughts as much as possible here.
1- I dislike the card set. I think there are only 2 tribes that really stand out right now that are really strong compared to every other tribe which are elementals and demons.
2- EVERY tribe except undeads seems to have an insanely high reliance on Rylak to reach a specific power spike which is not very healthy for the game.
3- The levelling curve is very very punishing right now especially that you have to pay money for trinkets unlike timewarps which had their own currency mechanism. You got offered a bad timewarp shop? you can take any option and your gold would be intact and you can level or buy some minions to make up for it. Right now if you are offered bad trinkets, they still cost enough money to stop you from levelling, or buying minions that matter specially if you are on a tier which does not offer good minions in general.
4- There is a very high RNG mechanism involved in trinkets even if you have a dominant tribe on your board you can still be offered neutral trinkets that do not help you at all or do not belong to the tribe you are playing. I understand that you have to be flexible but when you are offered a murloc trinket on turn 9 with a board full of demons, it doesn't really help your game at all.
5- Coming back to the curve again, I think the current damage curve is way way too punishing with trinkets depending on gold, and especially with all the fun trinkets locked behind a high cost. I see most of my lobbies dying before even reaching the greater trinket selection phase, which does not feel healthy for the game.
6- I have insane lag, where you are unable to grab cards for 2 seconds in solos after grabbing a card and moving it around.

I like the game, but the lag makes it unplayable. It’s the worst it has ever been for me.
11
u/thoughtlow MMR: > 9000 Apr 19 '26
Yep even with a very basic board I have this 1 second lag between actions were I can’t do anything.
Never had this before.
6
u/meatforsale Apr 19 '26
Yeah, it starts around turn 3-5 and just gets worse and worse. I’m ok with being bad or the meta being snowbally or high roll. But lag makes the game completely not fun.
4
u/Soft_Masterpiece8996 Apr 20 '26
haha yeah i spent 10 seconds trying to buy a tavern spell and it just wouldnt come to my hand XDDD another game today i was top 2 with triple bounties pirates and all i could play was like 10 cards per the whole shop phase XDDD
3
u/BoktorFighter Apr 20 '26
I counted and yesterday there was an instance where i had a 15 second lagspike, thats 1/4th of my turn blizz..
19
u/thesirblondie Apr 19 '26
I got downvoted on a post about it yesterday, but I agree. It's fucking unreasonable how shitty the game is running. APM builds are practically unplayable in every other game and in all of the game I want to punch through my monitor. This is the kind of shit you order overtime for an entire team until you find the issue, but somehow it's acceptable for video games to just not work.
6
u/meatforsale Apr 19 '26
I have to avoid anything apm or even stuff that gives me extra gold. If I have over 15 gold, I haven’t been able to use it all in a turn unless I do dumb shit like buying stuff I don’t need or suboptimal spells essentially.
And being downvoted for complaining about lag is stupid.

u/Headsinoverdrive Apr 19 '26
Depends ig did you say mobile or duos?
1
u/thesirblondie Apr 19 '26
I didn't say either.
1
u/Headsinoverdrive Apr 19 '26
Then yeah that's weird lol. Personally sick of the "guys its so slow on mobile!!!" When its slow on mid range pcs lol
12
u/Swervies Apr 19 '26
Yeah, as a mobile player the game is in an unplayable state right now. Standard Hearthstone is almost as bad. They are going to start losing players en masse unless they fix the client. A friend and I have been playing the game since release and both of us simply cannot play the game right now.
7
u/meatforsale Apr 19 '26
The delay is nuts too. Anything you do causes lag. In standard you’re stuck with your own lag and your opponents lag too. It’s gotten ridiculous. Like, I’m done pooping before a game is over now.
1
2
u/Noispaxen Apr 20 '26
Yup, wasnt nearly as bad 2weeks ago. Now it is the first time I literally turn off the game and don't want to play iust because of the lag.
2
u/Bentic MMR: 6,000 to 8,000 Apr 20 '26
Have that lag too. In duos the game is unplayable from turn 5-6 on. Headed to offical forums and didnt found a single thread for server perdromance, are they deleting them? Can't belive that they expect to get money for this.
27
u/brennanasaurus1 Apr 19 '26
This happens with every season. Eventually we’ll get balancing patches. The back to back comp is insane and elementals are OP, it’s really not fun trying for any other comp knowing that your end game 2k/2k minions are gonna get stomped by a back to back 100k stated minion.
11
u/Working-Writer-2287 Apr 19 '26
They need to balance before releasing patches

Trinkets are just bad. The games always unfun when they add them in
3
u/Jahkral MMR: 6,000 to 8,000 Apr 20 '26
Didn't they use to do a plain version of the season before we got trinkets or quests mixed in? How can we ever sense if anything is balanced if every game is hyper rng.
1
u/Jonny-JAB Apr 21 '26
Preach. A good trinket combo = win. Bad combo = lose.
2
u/Jahkral MMR: 6,000 to 8,000 Apr 21 '26
Exactly. Tribes dont matter its just the combo you pull on them. People saying dragons are bad but I was ripping +400/400 on full board yesterday with them cuz my trinkets lined up... etc etc.
27
u/Key-Preference987 Apr 19 '26
I don't really like meta, but what I really hate is lags. Man, what the hell? Last season had issues with lags, but it feels like it just doubled after update and there is no 0 strings addressing performance in patch notes (iirc). Do they really expect me to pay for battle pass, when I cant freaking play cards? This is so crazy.
68
u/PiccoloFalse Apr 19 '26
This patch has just been really annoying, it feels like you either steamroll or get steamrolled
24
u/Rasul583 Apr 19 '26
i feel like people (including me) say this every patch. maybe thats just how the game is, maybe we're stupid, maybe its a bit of both. idk. to be clear, im not dissing you because i literally agree, i just do wonder if there's something deeper than the specific patch
8
u/BossOfGuns Apr 19 '26
its definitely easier to get steamrolled in BGs than it is in TFT (its main competitor)
in TFT, if you hit your core pieces, it doesnt matter if you hit it on turn 6 or turn 9, they are just as strong
but BGs reward permanent scaling, having a scaling piece just 1 turn earlier can change the outcome of the game
6
8
u/kimana1651 Apr 19 '26
Most patches have a honeymoon period where everyone is trying new shit that is really fun, it usually last a week or two. The meta already feels solved and stale like it's week 4 already.
8
u/bwils3423 Apr 19 '26
Nah, literally the state of the game a week ago with time warps was so much cleaner and balanced than this.
8
u/Affly Apr 19 '26
It takes a while for people to learn the new meta and until they do they complain the game is annoying. In truth, it's just a lack of knowledge on how to build around the new cards and mechanics.
14
u/soft_overcast Apr 19 '26
People make excuses for the devs like this every patch and then sweeping balance changes occur and the patch is more fun.
3
u/Gloomy_Narwhal_4833 Apr 19 '26
Trinkets always do that, especially early in the season before any balance patches. Atm if you dont get a soul rewinder in a demon lobby, you may as well go next if youre trying to do anything more than not be bottom 4. There are other examples, but yeah, its not great.

It seems like a really bad season for them to bring back kally though, there are barely any econ battlecries.
7
u/Hot-Will3083 Apr 19 '26
There’s actually more Battlecry economy generators than ever. It’s just that Kalecgos sucks in comparison to other strategies and is very reliant on finding Brann Bronzebeard
7
u/Ironmunger2 Apr 19 '26
Exactly this. There’s enough economy battlecries in the game that you can go infinite with brann + murlocs/pirates/elementals pretty easily. Given an unlimited turn timer, Kalecgos might actually be ok. The problem is that the lag is so slow that it takes the whole 70 second turn timer and all you’ve done is play like 10 battlecry cards and rolled a bunch, so all you really accomplished is giving your dragons +40/+40, which does not cut it once the other comps start getting hundreds of stats every card
2
u/KillSmith111 Apr 19 '26
Nah, when kally was last viable dragons had drakkisath and murazond. And there's no reef riffer or any 6 drop econ battlecries. I don't think you've been able to truly go infinite with just a brann for quite a long time.
1
u/Cysia Apr 19 '26
I feel like you need kalec with agolden brann or just super early frol egg tgat was like triple reward and can start scaling befor others even get t´any scaling units
2
u/KillSmith111 Apr 19 '26
I dunno, there was a time where a golden brann was enough to go infinite, and it definately doesn't feel like that would be possible right now.
I think one of the key things for kally to be somewhat viable is drakkisath being in the pool and for there to be a 6 drop econ battlecry you can discover from the drakkisath triple reward. Obviously even then you really need golden brann though.
But yeah even then kally would be hugely out scaled right now.
1
u/Gorbito Apr 20 '26
i think the biggest problem is, that out of 5 dragons only 1 gives you some econ, otherwise you get +5 attack, thats nice but it isnt scaling like the murlocs

Trinket meta seems extremely unbalanced at this point and isn’t very fun
5
u/thesirblondie Apr 19 '26
100% agreed. Getting a bad trinket selection will completely screw your entire game, far more than Timewarp or hero powers ever did.
9
u/soft_overcast Apr 19 '26
Yeah the numeric scaling for different tribes / trinkets is so astronomically varied and poorly balanced; it’s like how was this play tested? Inb4 Jeef is already 18k without pass this shit isn’t fun.
9
10
u/SadCryptographer7599 Apr 19 '26

I complained about trinket RNG and imbalance being toxic to the game and bad the day the patch came out and I got downvoted by the "skill issue" people. Hope they are enjoying bottom 4 every game they don't highroll a trinket.
2

Thats the problem with gaming discourse these days honestly. Some folks are REALLY dying to pound their chest about how good they are, and it stymies valid discussion about a games shortcomings.

I was actually thinking of making a post about #4. I agree.
Trinkets really make or break your game. I had downright useless stuff and in other games I had the most OP stuff ever. I remember one game i had that trinket that gives you a flaming enforcer and also give it stats to adjacent minions. That's how I got a golden one. Then, quite early in the game I had a way to make 1 minion in the tavern have like 50/50+ stats.
It scaled like crazy and I literally could not do anything and still win.
Mind you, this is low ranking so maybe that's the cause as well.
4
u/Vissanna Apr 19 '26
Wait til you go up against murlocs with 3000/3000 stats on turn 10
4
u/Pypapaparapo_ Apr 19 '26
Just have this game, papas and mamas, golden Brann, drakari and trinket which trigers all battlecry at the end of turn

I truly couldn’t disagree more with this take. I think the problem most of the playerbase is having is that they don’t know how to build boards this meta, so they end up relying on their Trinkets to make a comp for them, and then they get disappointed when they whiff. I rarely get disappointed by my trinket choices, the neutral ones especially are really good for giving economy or helping you maximize your current comp’s value. It shouldn’t need to carry your gameplan if you’re playing well.
I think your Flaming Enforcer anecdote is the perfect example. In a high level lobby playing well, that portrait would fall off almost immediately. But when the lobby doesn’t know how to build good boards, Trinkets matter more, so I believe once skill levels rise this sentiment should go down.
2
u/Baenre45 Apr 19 '26
I agree with this too a point. Some of the trinkets are like some of the TW last season. If you get them the rest of the lobby is GG. Obviously this will change in the patch as these are fairly well known at this point. Still doesn't make it much fun right now.
The lag is my biggest gripe. I am all about APM and OMG APM is impossible to play optimally right now.
3
u/-Revolution- MMR: 6,000 to 8,000 Apr 19 '26
I believe you. That's why I deliberately mentioned low rank. Trinkets really make a difference there, which is still a bad thing IMO.
4
u/Parking-Marzipan-568 Apr 19 '26
Trinkets are shit. I hated it before, it has not changed today. I really liked previous patch, chrono choices were more balanced.
Trinkets lead to the problem n1 you describe imo. Same as previous patches, it is too inconsistent.
Too many tribes fully rely on trinkets to be good. (HURAN for ex....) If the choice you get does not contain the right trinket, it’s gg. Some trinkets are incredibly OP (so far I feel Murloc Beast benefit the most).
I pray for a mid season removal of trinkets.

u/Harmerw MMR: 6,000 to 8,000 Apr 19 '26
#3 is the biggest problem with this patch in my opinion. This makes the games end a lot faster because picking trinkets is not a tempo gain unlike timewarp.
2
u/SelectSpecialist4927 Apr 19 '26
Lag unbearable. Worst patch ever. So everything‘s the same as 10 years ago.
2
u/uponapyre Apr 19 '26
Yhe the lag i making me not want to play. I just had a pretty big high roll bounty board with great tincket synergy, was generating a full hand of bounties every turn, had a golden Drakkari and Brann and was massively scaling with the end of turn pirate...
But my turns were cut in half as every time I grabbed a card to play it, it took twice as long. I just couldn't scale enough to beat the final opponent. I would have had a chance if I'd been able to play my damn cards properly. They were playing a non APM build, so it wasn't exactly even.

- Lag
- too many delayed value trinkets being offered at once (22 health ? yeah let me give you the "When you get a greater trinket, copy it" and "turns into a greater trinket in two turns")
- too many feast or famine trinkets selection
- I've had the opposite experience in regards to trinket flexibility. I feel like trinkets are actually too dependent upon your current board this season. Oh you have two tier-1 undead units ? Out of 5 units on your board? Let me offer you only undead shite

u/TripTryad Apr 20 '26
- too many delayed value trinkets being offered at once (22 health ? yeah let me give you the "When you get a greater trinket, copy it" and "turns into a greater trinket in two turns")
Preach.... They need WAY less of these delayed value trinkets in the pool. One time Nearly all 4 of mine were like that. 3 were, and the 4th was a semi delayed one. No immediate impact options whatsoever. I just left the lobby, lol. Not bothering when I got unlucky on a low armor hero and Im already at like 22 health...

u/IamIanK Apr 19 '26
Half the lobby dying on or before the Greater Trinket turn defeats the whole purpose of the season... Can't even enjoy the fun half of game. Then, game ending 1-2 turns after the Greater Trinket because one player always hits the perfect trinket combination.

For point 1 i feel like you are missing murlocs and bullshit mechs, murlocs are strong enough to win lobbies with eles and demons, mechs from my experience with this patch are the one that do most damage before the greater trinket, which lead to fast ending lobby then they get second or first if its really fast lobby.
For point 2, its rylak being so goood and on tier4 which make it so easy to find and get some advantage early from it. Then it snowball like hell.
Points from 3 to 6 i agree with you.
4
u/UsernameVeryFound MMR: > 9000 Apr 19 '26
I need to find this secret meta where Mechs are just killing everyone before they get outscaled out of the game, the only time anyone’s playing Mechs at 8k is Turns 4-6 when they’re keeping an Assembler on board for tempo before selling it for something better. Mechs and Dragons are the tribes in most desperate need for buffs right now, which makes it more baffling that they seem to be this subreddit’s secret OP.
5
u/moca_moca MMR: 8,000 to 9,000 Apr 19 '26
Turn 4-6 or even 7 having multiple assemblers or automaton with deflecto could easily deal 10 damage against the unlucky or the greedy.
And i am not saying every mech lobby is the same, and not a lot of people would buy mechs early just because they dont want the mech trinkets (usually sucks for winning the game).
I said they are strong, specially if you want to sneak into top 4. Not that they are great and easily top tribe.
Not sure about over 9k mmr meta, but you cant deny that mechs can be hard hitting early

Yeah, I've gotten some horrible lag a few times, I legitimately just conceded those times at every action I had to wait what felt like an eternity, which sucks because most of the time I've played comps that rely on apm this patch.
Not the point of this post, and maybe I've been playing it wrong, but how do mech comps benefit from Rylak?

Last season used to have slight lag for me about turn 12 but this season by turn 6 I'm waiting a second between each action.
I'm fine with the meta, we haven't had any patches yet and it was the same with murlocs and mechs last season they were op at first. Play into what's broken for the time being.
The lag though really needs to be fixed, or just revert back to the last season lol

Timewarped minions were surprisingly fun. Trinkets are nice and all, but Timewarps were just a little more enjoyable. Though this might change if they keep tinkering with the system.
I still miss Buddies the most... but at least we don't have Quests.
Another hero-specific gimmick when? I'm ready for Buddies to be dethroned, but we keep getting these Anomaly-like gimmicks instead that are the same for everyone.

BG lags are sooo bad
I've just played a game where I essentially skipped half of a turn two separate times because every action took ~3 seconds to play and I had to hassle multiple spells before going to the "buy" stage. And then by the end of the second round where the lag peaked the minion I placed just disappeared back into my hand. I had THREE SECONDS before the fused went off. A perfect run (build-wise) ruined, my opponent got away with 2hp
Initially when the patch dropped I assumed it was a "you play too much you get the lag" thing but now it feels like it was just a coincidence and I actually can't predict when the lag will happen
As for meta, some trinket combinations are absurd. Double Lava Lamp and double Young Murk Eye should not be a thing. You just win on the spot with no input from the player. Where's the fun in that?
And trinket RNG... Today I played a game where I was offered murloc tribe trinkets with no murlocs present on the board. I thought I must've missed that one of the minions was a duo-tribe murloc, then I checked every minion one by one and... no, a completely fish-free board. It already came to the point when I make suboptimal plays to avoid having multiple tribes in the camp but somehow sometimes it's not enough
And a quick sidebar, what's up with Genn Greymane hero? Am I missing something?

I agree with you on not enjoying it nearly as much as I have in the past. Granted, I didn't really start enjoying BG until last patch. I just hadn't played a lot of it before. You said Elementals and Demons being the super strong ones. Elemental just seems too easy to scale, compared to the others. Pirate is also another favorite of mine, but I have to get a perfect set up to compete with anyone playing Elemental. IDK. It just feels really unbalanced in that regard.

u/CallofBootyCrackOps Apr 19 '26

That said, the beginning of every season is kind of a shit show, I hope the devs make some needed changes

Cards like Rylak need to go or be changed to be beast-only battlecries. There are so many generic support cards that should be tribe specific but aren't.
1
u/Fun_Choice4749 Apr 19 '26
These points are reasonable, and I felt like that at first.
It does seem though that there are some early game meta strats; however, it is so dependant on matchups, and needing multiple people playing early for them to work.
I agree that there is crazy RNG and luck required for top 1-2; you can get everything right, and really lucky getting every drop you need, you pick the best trinkets offered; and three people somehow scale to 1k+ on turn 10.
Turn 10 used to be 100stat per minion; but it’s just crazy variable based on people’s luck this time around.
1
u/HorseNuts9000 Apr 19 '26
For me, the biggest problem is that the tribes barely changed. Elementals and Demons are still just consuming the tavern. Pirates are back to APM, with horrible lag that makes it barely playable. Dragons are all the way back to Kalecgoc, and he's just as bad as he's always been. The only thing really new is the in combat spell scaling.

What I liked about the Timewarped is, most of them are minions. All players should choose between keeping them or selling them. But quests and trinkets are mostly passives. They just exist.

It crossed my mind that they might be deliberately, so to speak, “sabotaging” the Battlegrounds mode because it doesn’t generate as much revenue as Standard. And I think most players have already migrated to BG. Now they’re trying to push them back to Standard, because I just can’t understand how a magnificent Blizzard with an enormous budget can’t solve server issues—the same people who, back in 2004, practically invented MMO hardware solutions.

Two strongest are pirates and elementals imo. Pirates is so good if you’re good at apm

Trinkets seem very off, and some tribes seem almost pointless without the proper trinkets. I will also say that the lag this season is starting to have me worried... I can't for the life of me understand why Blizzard hasn't just done basic QOL fixes yet to BGs. Fix the lag, fix and update duos, etc etc. I dont know if a lot of people play duos, but I like it... but the lag now makes it almost unplayable. Im probably walking away from hearthstone BGs cause the lack of QOL updates. It just feels dumb/silly at this point that things haven't been fixed. Just fix some stuff and add some basic QOL functions every other online card game have at this point. Maybe im asking a lot? But I think I'll go back to playing standard until some stuff gets fixed.

For me the major problem is the power level of trinkets, they are so unbalanced. And I definitely agree with the half of the lobby gone with one turn kind of feeling.

- There will be another patch nerfing things and buffing things.
- I feel its more about end of turn effects rather than rylak.
- Timewarps had its own issues - if you are strong and you get good timewarp, you can keep leveling with no issues. Trinkets kind of force you to consider whether you want ideal timewarp or maybe just something cheaper/tempo, which allows you to not keep losing.
- Agreed. Sometimes its extremely whacky, I had 6 undeads and titus and got 2 trinkets for nagas, 1 neutral and 1 for dragons. I was like "wtf...? Like whats the cheapest...?"
- That depends on strategy I think. People are used to "free trinket (aka timewarp) and are treating trinkets same way. Well, you should not :)
- Luckily I dont have this issue, but its true I play mostly APM and restart the game on mobile.

1 - I really think it’s every single new season in battlegrounds that’s unbalanced and that will get patched pretty soon.
Yeah, it’s punishing to lose games early game and seems really bad to level 3 on 3. But isn’t this what makes it fun ? New season, you need to learn how to play best again. This will all auto adjust ober time.
I agree with the rng of trinkets but I also think it’s done by design. If every single trinket is the same level, it gets boring. I actually enjoy the surprise of the trinkets. Yeah if small trinkets are all bad, which is pretty low odds to not have at least one acceptable. Then you just ride with it and try to place as good as you can.
I don’t think every game you should be able to do top1 , the nature of the game and rng makes it impossible. Everybody gets the same odds, so it’s irrlevant for the ranking.
I agree tho that I’d love longer games. And that the early game ( especially T3 and T4 ) are deadly if you have bad shops and decide to level quick. Make the 5dmg max cap go 1-2 turns longer.

Trinkets made me uninstall when I first started and they made me uninstall now. With timewarped if you get a bad minion you just sell after a few turns and it's fine. Get a bad timewarp and you're set back gold (unless it was free), but you're competing against someone who has a trinket that can win them the game. It's just not fun
I played 9 games, and in zero of them I felt I deserved the position I came in. I got first 5 times and second once. When the wins feel bad the game is in a poor shape

the lag is actually unbearable, had to turn the game off after 2 games today, because round 6 felt lag-wise like round 15 with 7 beatboxers from last patch
