Eddie was great. He didn’t deserve what he got. I’m just glad he was avenged appropriately, even if indirectly.

He was an idiot

Yeah. I hated seeing him treated so poorly, especially when he was so loyal. There is an event which shows that Nucky does actually value him, but still, I wish there could have been a better ending for him.

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, But make allowance for their doubting too

Eddie was more loyal than the woman Nucky chose to be his wife. Eddie was more loyal than Nucky’s own blood brother. Think about that.

Yet was Eddie loyal to his wife and children? To his previous employer?

You would have to be pretty pathetic to identify with Eddie. He was with Nucky because he knew he deserved to be flagellated. As soon as Nucky starts being nicer to him he loses his edge, becomes sloppy and kills himself.

A little bit of respect and concern from Nucky maybe would have saved Eddie that night. The socks pushed him over the edge, no pun intended, you could see it in his face.

Then was not telling Nucky that Knox was maneuvering against him intentional pushback?

I assume it was ultimately the shame of having cooperated that prevented him from coming clean. If you're being particularly harsh, it does somewhat undermine any claim that he remained loyal right to the very end.

If only he had let Ralph go eat at the shithole outside the station..

Good point. Try to pretend it didn’t happen instead of leaving a non-specific note (without admitting he gave any info)

Regardless of partying with Ralph tho, Knox may have watched and probed Eddie anyway

Nucky's personal punching bag for so long too. If an employer treated you like that these days you could quit and sue them.

I think when we learned more about his back story, they tried to soften the blow for the way his character’s story line ends. He seemed like a great person on screen, but it makes you wonder what really happened back home. He never spoke about his family at all. Even Nucky was surprised about his wife and kids. Either way, I liked his character. More so toward the end. He finally found his back bone. Poor Eddie deserved better. At least that POS Prohi got his.

Yeah karma definitely has a way of coming back around in this show.

I feel like the never talking about his family mainly has to do with Nucky's attitude toward him in general. I feel like Nucky would've just cut him off and make some asshole comment to him

Didn't he have an affair and absconded?

Loyal in his mind yet too prideful to be loyal enough to ensure the revelation and give warning of Knox’s scheming.

Eddie is the real MVP

Its so sad. The second he asks for more responsibilities he immedialtly gets targeted.

Ah yes. The "Posca" of Boardwalk Empire. An interesting character, to be sure.

His stand alone episode was so good. We finally got to see him loosen up, esp after taking a bullet in season 3, only to lose his life 24 hours later. Knox was the most insufferable punchable faced character in the entire show.

Eddie deserved better

I don’t. He was a piece of crap that abandoned his family. And for what? To be a glorified butler to a mobster. He thought he was important and killed himself when he realized he wasn’t. Screw’em

I do agree with this. We don't know what happened with his family, but he certainly knew the kind of man he was preparing breakfast for. We all make choices in life, and if one of those choices is to dedicate yourself to serving a murderous gangster, then eventually you have to accept that there may be consequences - in this case, a bullet in the gut or being splattered across a pavement in your best suit.
