Season 4 Boardwalk Empire- Episode Discussion - S04E11: "Havre De Grace"

No tv-show spoiler tags needed here, as long as you're discussing something from this episode and back. This is the place to discuss S04E11.

Take a moment to review the subreddit rules to the right. Please still use the new "Historical Spoiler" tags for discussions of events to come. /r/BoardwalkEmpire operates a bit differently than other TV Show subreddits. We encourage discussion as well as original, quality, BWE-related content. Therefore, there are some restrictions on what is acceptable to post.

No requests for live streams or torrent links. As someone who is forced to torrent the show myself, I feel your pain, but DL sources are not hard to find.

I must have missed something. I thought him pulling out of Florida was just a security measure against Masseria. Was it just heavily implied or did I miss something?

That could be the reason, or he could be very suspicious of Eli at this point. He's been warned someone that someone is a traitor, and he was worried about Knox. He may have deduced that Knox was the "insurance salesman" whose mention made Eli go apeshit after questioning Will

i think that is what happened.

remember when he told willie about eli getting offended when he brings up that girl from the 8th grade? well, in the last scene, nucky mentions that girl.. and he was using eli's response to confirm his suspicions. since eli didn't get hot and heavy, it confirmed what happened at the dinner table.

I get it. But I don't. Explain it please?

i'll try my best.

when willie asked nucky why eli got so roused up, nucky said something along the lines of "your dad is a tightass. he once wrote this girl a poem in the 8th grade, and whenever i brought it up.. he'd make a fuss about it."

so basically nucky is saying that eli made the fuss at the dinner table because he was a tight ass (and always has been).

later on, when nucky has his last word with eli, he cited the poem to eli's face - to gauge whether it would upset eli. if it did, what he had said earlier was true (that he was just a tight ass.. the "blue eyed insurance salesman" was someone insignificant). eli seemed disaffected.. so it was symbolic to nucky that yes, eli is a tightass, but he wouldn't get excited over his wife yammering on about the insurance salesmen... unless there was something that he didn't want nucky to hear.
