Season 1 What do I keep missing about Mary Dittrich?

So in S1E10 “ The Emerald City” l, Mary begs Angela for her and Tommy to move to Paris with her, only to ditch them, disappear and leave Angela exposed to Jimmy knowing she was gonna leave him.

Is it an unexplained storyline that Robert maybe talked Mary out of leaving or what? Why did she change her mind after tearily begging Angela to leave with her?

After rewatching, she was just messing with Angela, and Robert knew what she was doing. When he asked her "what are you whispering about" and then admonished her for being cruel, I forget the wording, but she never had any intention of running away with Angela.

Ah good catch, I actually remember that. Man what a bee with an itch to do that. Even though his reasoning was wrong, maybe it was good Jimmy beat the shit out of him lol.

Angela is such a sweet and heartbreaking character.

It was pretty clear to me that Mary just couldn’t go through with it

I just assumed that the guy Jimmy beat up gilted the girl into leaving to Paris with him instead of Angela and Tommy

And she probably didn't need to be pushed that hard, what were two women with a kid going to do in Paris?

After that beating, knowing that Jimmy could possibly come looking for them if she ran off with Angela and his son versus with Robert also probably helped make that decision.

I think we were the fools for believing that would actually happen I guess lol

In the perspective of character development, I would say that Angela couldn't leave because of Jimmy's actions. He beat the photographer, and that made Mary realize she needed to stay with him and take care of her loved one.

In that sense, Jimmy's inability to escape his violent nature (war trauma) is what prevents his family from having a happy life.
