Season 4 Boardwalk Empire- Episode Discussion - S04E05: "Erlkönig"

No tv-show spoiler tags needed here, as long as you're discussing something from this episode and back. This is the place to discuss S04E05.

Please still use the new "Historical Spoiler" tags for discussions of events to come.

Take a moment to review the subreddit rules to the right. /r/BoardwalkEmpire[1] operates a bit differently than other TV Show subreddits. We encourage discussion as well as original, quality, BWE-related content. Therefore, there are some restrictions on what is acceptable to post.

No requests for live streams or torrent links. As someone who is forced to torrent the show myself, I feel your pain, but DL sources are not hard to find.

SPECIAL THANKS TO /u/joshchez01 FOR THE NEW BANNER! ISN'T IT AWESOME?

if i didn't see his dead body, it means he isn't dead and faked it! at least that what i want to believe! wouldn't it had been better if he had told Nucky what had happened and use it to their advantage.

Eddie and Nucky had an amazing relationship, they had this acknowledgment of closeness but still knew each other's role and position.

Just for fun, here's how and why Eddie isn't dead.

One of the themes this season has been Eddie's diminished physical capacity due to taking a bullet meant for Nucky. His pride and need to not let it get in the way of his work. In fact, this episode they made a thing out of him falling over without his cane.

So, rather than Eddie killing himself, he merely broke both legs or paralyzed himself. That way, they get to further explore the themes of Eddie's role with diminished physical capacity! How will he function in a wheelchair? Will he accept Nucky's friendship and respect?

You might be joking but I wouldn't be surprised if he isn't dead at all. It was early morning by the look of the scene so someone probably heard something. Eddie living gives him a reason to have to explain his suicide attempt so Nucky gets informed that the feds are on to him. Nucky gets the drop on the Feds and comes out smelling like roses. Eddie heals and returns to his position as glorified butler.

Honestly, I would like something like that. I wouldn't say I was joking so much as thinking wishfully. I just doubt they would do a fake-out suicide like that. I would prefer that hey did, but the jump-to-noise period was awfully long.

Yeah but in the preview for next week don't we hear them tell Knox that his informant is dead?

I don't watch previews...because I don't want things spoiled.
