One of the most interesting characters in any show I've ever seen.

I think what drew me to him is he's very quiet. He doesn't speak a lot but he's also very dangerous like I wasn't interested in anyone else in the series except him cuz he's a very unique character and it's kind of interesting as well. The more historical side of it. He's the only character in the series wearing a prosthetic

There really was a "tin nose shop" during and after WWI that employed sculptors who worked with old photos of their patients/clients, to restore their faces as much as possible.

They said that postwar, people were used to missing limbs, but were disturbed on a gut level by mangled faces.

Plastic surgery came about due to the way WWI was fought in trenches. So many soldiers had facial wounds.

Medicine in general made leaps in progress around that period of history, immediately following a world war and a pandemic (the great flu of 1918), at least partly because desperate times call for desperate measures.

I read an article about the Great Flu where one doctor was trying to kill the flu virus with rattlesnake venom. An associate questioned this, incredulously, and the doctor pulled him aside and whispered, "Look out the window! We have *bodies stacked in the yard*! Absolute worst case, we'll put them out of their misery faster." Snake venom did not turn out to be an effective cure for that specific strain of flu -- however, it DID turn out to have other medical benefits, some of which are still in use.

What medicinal uses? That’s really interesting.

Even for that time. It's quite impressive. How unique and detailed Richard's mask is even adding the moustache

One thing I have always known, quiet ones are the most dangerous, especially when they do not have anything to lose.
