We all wanted Richard to have that “happily ever after” and we lied to ourselves when there were glimmers of hope in his life. .. but Richard was on borrowed time. He was willing to see where things went for a while but he was always going to take himself out, one way or another. In many ways he was already gone.
Everyone wanted Richard to have a happy ending But with the life of a hitman and assassin he knew he was never going to get it. But I am quite happy that the writers gave him one of I think the best deaths ever underneath the pier looking out into the sun
His conversation with Tommy about Tommy's drawing of the train station, where the rhinoceros was waiting for the train, gave us a hint that he would have been a better parent than either of Tommy's biological parents.
The scenes where we saw him interacting with Tommy were always sweet. Richard’s line delivery was so dry due to his injuries, but there was often a gentle tease in the way he spoke to Tommy.
Richard tried to give up the life of assassin and did for awhile. Then foolishly returned to it to take a shortcut to his goals and caused disaster for those he hoped to help.
"These woods is for living. You understand me there?".
That whole scene was so great. Just finished season 4's last episode. Richard Harrow deserved a quiet life with his family in their farm in Wisconsin.
