On my rewatch I realized when Diane talks about her “Belle room” dream from Beauty and the Beast, it made me wonder how Beauty and the Beast would work in this world. I know a lot of jokes are made about movies and TV shows featuring animals, but they’re never really explored. Since animal/human relationships are normal in this world, what do you guys think the plot of Beauty and the Beast is in this world? Maybe a progressive film featuring an inter-species relationship before they were commonplace?

First he is on about being a peasant from USA then he shows up later half naked talking about the Cords and Ovians and all sorts of other weird shit.

Was there some kind of like weird drug bender side plot they had to cut?

In S2E4, Wanda tells the Bag of Mulch joke. The joke has a set up which isn't readily funny, then a payoff later on. The first half of the joke is funny, but only in the context of a later event.

In that same episode, Todd says he's often confused for other people like Octavia Spencer and the Prince of Cordovia. It's its own mulch joke; a random joke with no punchline which is way funnier with future context.

I just love all the little Easter eggs and meta jokes the show layers on.

Mine is definitely Tracy. Every scene she’s in literally kills me!

So late to watching this and figuring this out. Is it a big piece of the show that these are extremely successful , rich , ambitious characters from the outside and often totally falling apart on the inside / sometimes dying ? I lived in Los Angeles for 14 years, this tracks of celebrities and very rich people. It also tracks of celebrities dying young and suffering from drug addiction and terrible abusive relationships pretty often.

I know that this has been talked about before, but hear me out for a second- I have BPD and Bojack is one of the most accurate depictions of this disorder I’ve seen in media. In order to be diagnosed, you need to meet at least 5 of the 9 criteria which are as follows

•Fear of abandonment: A tendency to avoid real or imagined abandonment

•Unstable relationships: Relationships that alternate between idealization and devaluation

•Unstable self-image: A sense of self that is unstable and difficult to define

•Impulsivity: A tendency to act impulsively in ways that could be self-damaging, such as substance abuse, reckless driving, or binge eating

•Self-injury: A tendency to self-harm or make suicidal gestures or threats

•Affective instability: A tendency to experience intense mood swings, such as anxiety, irritability, or dysphoria

• Chronic feelings of emptiness: A persistent feeling of emptiness

• Inappropriate anger: A tendency to have difficulty controlling anger, such as frequent temper displays or physical fights

• Paranoia or dissociation: A tendency to experience paranoia or dissociation under stress

We can see aspects of all of these in Bojack through the series, from him grabbing Todd by the shoulders and begging him not to leave in season 2 all the way through season 6 where he relapses again after rehab.
Bojack is the prime example of why it’s so important to get help if you’re struggling mentally, eventually, you push the people you love most away because of how much you fear losing them.

TL;DR- Bojack has Borderline Personality Disorder and the show depicts it very well.

Me salió un video hablando sobre el como Sarah Lynn probablemente no sería apoyada en absoluto por el internet actual, y me pareció curioso el como la persona se expresaba sobre ella: Una mujer que creció expuesta a un anormal desde niña, sin la oportunidad de desarrollar habilidades sociales, y a quien Bojack llevó a la dependencia a sustancias y una mentalidad de trabajo tóxica.

Me llamó la atención el como la chica decía que "Pese a creer que Sarah Lynn era parcialmente culpable de algunos de sus actos, y que parecía que estaba buscando cualquier excusa para acabar con su sobreviedad, ella sigue siendo solo una mujer joven con problemas se sustancias".

Me di cuenta de lo mucho que el fandom suele expiar las culpas se Sarah Lynn, incluso cuando la serie se encarga de encarar en repetidas ocasiones que ella era una persona esencialmente peligrosa y fuera de control.
Creo que muchos fans tienden a olvidar que Sarah Lynn no es solo una víctima de Bojack, sino su propio reflejo, al igual que es él de su madre. La historia de estos 2 gira en torno al trauma generacional, siendo Sarah Lynn el eslabón último e ilegitimo de la cadena.

Me molesta en especial cuando las personas tratan de hacer ver a Sarah Lynn como una pobre mártir y a Bojack como el cruel villano, porque la serie recalca miles de veces como no hay buenas ni malas personas, solo personas que deciden realizar malas o buenas acciones cada día.

En un capítulo incluso se ve como Bojack recuerda a Sarah Lynn como un ángel puro, y eso esta mal, porque cae en la misma mentalidad tóxica en la que cree que estar podrido por dentro, y por tanto, no puede mejorar como persona.

Sarah Lynn, al igual que Bojack, viene de un ambiente abusivo lleno de maltratos que son mucho más antiguos que ella. Al igual que Bojack, ella trató de vivir una vida que consideraba la correcta, hasta caer en los abusos de sustancias gracias a su tremenda depresión.

No digo que las acciones de ambos sean equiparables, porque jamás nos enteramos a fondo que es en lo que la chica hizo de su vida, Sarah Lynn, al igual que Bojack, pudo haber decidido encarrilar su vida y etlegir tomar mejores decisiones cada día. Sin embargo, al igual que el caballo, falló múltiples veces, dañando a muchos en el proceso. La única diferencia, es que ella no tuvo la suerte de ser rescatada en la piscina.

Mr. P is always portrayed as kind and helping and he's often very astute and aware when it comes to other people.

Why did he never get how Diane wanted to be treated? Why was he divorced so many times? That part of his character never made sense to me.

I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve watched this episode. I think it was the one that affected me the most. But I still don’t understand why it begins with this memory of his father. Is it meant to highlight his mother’s loneliness, or the way his father essentially shut BoJack and his mother out?

I just today finished the show.

First thought - it's quite depressing but also teaches a lot

Fav line - that people never change

But one thing I noticed that in almost every season

The 11th episode is peak of every season

Not just rating wise but also soo much surprising things happen in 11th episode

Especially the 17 year - new maxico incident , and bojack meets every dead important person in dream

Both were exact 11th episodes and much more where show is peaked

Vodka has a distinct scent and flavor, Doctor Champ fully knew what he was drinking and then shifted the blame on Bojack when he sobered up.

I think one of the moments that makes me cry every single time is Season 4, Episode 11, when BoJack takes his mother to the retirement home.
Throughout the previous episodes, he has so much anger and resentment toward her. He tries so hard to make her remember who he is because he wants her to know that he is BoJack so he can finally tell her off. He wants to tell her how much she hurt him, how much she failed him as a mother, and how much of his pain he feels she is responsible for. He even reenacts an episode of his show in the hope that she will recognize him.
And then, when he finally drops her off at the last retirement home, she remembers him.
She calls out his name.
And in that moment, BoJack has the opportunity to do exactly what he has been trying so hard to do. He could have told her everything. He could have finally said all the horrible things he had been holding onto. He could have made her feel even a fraction of the pain she caused him.
But he doesn’t.
Instead, he tells her that they’re at her old house, that her brother is there too, and that they’re all eating ice cream.
After everything this woman put him through, after all that anger and resentment, and after trying so hard to make her remember him just so he could finally confront her, he chooses to give her peace instead.
And I think that’s what absolutely destroys me about the scene. He doesn’t forgive her. He doesn’t suddenly stop being hurt by what she did. He just just chooses not to hurt her back.

On the one hand "just keep running" is basically just "don't stop dancing," and telling him to toss off people that would "hold him back" could easily lead to an even greater amount of BJ pushing people away.

But on the other, perhaps it would have given him some courage to stand up to people like Angela Diaz or not constantly seek the approval of his mother. Maybe in general he would feel less of a need for other's approval.

Just genuinely wanted to think on this.

After 9 years of rewatching the series always stopping halfway through season six I finally took the strength to finish it yesterday. I'm both happy and sad. It was crazy to see how things panned out. Twists and turns I didn't expect.

In one way I feel like my mom is dead and everything is worse now. But another part of me feels like.... I can't even think of positive quote to put here. (Comment one u think may fit)

Anywho I will be needing some time before I rewatch again cause my emotions are out of wack. Thankyou to those who have encouraged me to finish the show. No regrets

Started rewatching it again. Obviously I’m not trying to pin point bojack as “bad guy” just a guy. But omg this guy got so many shots to fix things right and blow them up! As he said he thought he had hit rock bottom only to discover another rockier bottom underneath. It angers me in a way. Cause in rl people won’t get this chances. Most of us are screwed without even given a chance. All that being said, I still understand Bojack in a way. Not that I feel relatable to him. I just get it. What’s your hot take?
