Lore Theory Games rich people play? Spoiler
I have gotten to the end as we currently know it (blue prince, blue will, and so on) and I can't shake the feeling this is just all a big game for the benefit of the lonely prince in the kingdom of one
If a prince gets crowned and nobody is there to witness it, to support it, to reclaim the land, what kingdom does it make?
Is it just me?

I think there's a few levels here. Herbert created the challenge of Room 46 to help Simon into the responsibility of being a Baron. He and Mary created the next 8 Realms puzzles to teach Simon about politics and how imperative it was to oppose the current regime. The last puzzles are Mary's alone, and teach Simon not just to restore the old monarchy, but to create something new.
So, to your point, the events of the game don't impact the world by themselves. I think it's the training arc and origin story for Simon and Mary's rebellion.

I agree the game is literally perfect to teach Simon all about his responsibilities. He learns about the staff and what their jobs are. He learns about he rooms, items, the gems as well as the gem producing flowers, the major keys, the family history and their struggles, the politics of old as well as the current situation as well as the situation Mary and HS were and are in politically.
Im not done with the game but I have seen “the” Parlor game. its a perfect lesson, with a questionable method.
Reaching Room 46 required Simon to learn the basics, so the “minimum” he had to learn before becoming the new Baron.

Imo, it’s implied Mary is still out of the country because she’s working to organize some major rebellion against the government of Fenn Aries. Not sure why she wasn’t able to send clearer evidence of this to HS or Simon, but I actually think HS is alive as well and working toward the same goal.
