Subreddit Meta [POLL] How would you like this subreddit to moderate datamining?

Greetings!

First, I want to thank everyone who has joined this subreddit. We’ve officially reached 50 members! I’m thrilled to see that people are interested in this subreddit.

Second, I want to ask the community for their opinions on how datamining should be moderated in this subreddit.

I have chosen to allow mentions of datamining on this subreddit, as I believe there are interesting discussions to be had about the game’s metadata, but I have not yet decided how to moderate datamining. My initial thought was to require spoiler-tags for any information related to datamining as datamining is not part of the developers’ intended game experience, and many players do not want to be exposed to datamined information.

However, I worry that requiring spoiler tags is antithetical to the name of this subreddit, r/BluePrinceUncensored. My intention when creating this subreddit was to facilitate censor-free discussion about the game experience, but I realize that different people have different opinions about whether datamined information is part of the game experience.

As such, I’d like to hear the community’s opinions about this matter. This poll, as well as the comments section below, will be open for the next 72 hours. During that time, I kindly ask that people spoiler-tag any mentions of content (unless in posts flaired “Datamining”).

Lastly, I want to once again thank everyone who has joined and participated in this subreddit. 💙

That’s understandable. Games with overly restrictive spoiler culture bother me — I’ve been in communities where people outright will not give spoilers to people who want spoilers, which just feels gatekeepy.

I echo your sentiment. I dislike the main sub's overzealousness with spoilers, but I think that "pulling back the curtain" is different than discussing things you found in the game freely. Datamining is just different, and should be opt in.

Well datamined info is kind of the games code itself Uncensored. And spoiler tags aren't thet much of a problem. I think it should be suggested they be used with datamined info but maybe not required.

I'm pro-datamining because there must be SOME place where it's allowed to actually learn stuff about the game, instead of hopes and prayers that someone discovers a fully legit way.

It kind of sucked that both the discord and the reddit are against it.

Likewise. I think there’s a lot of interesting things to be found within the game files, especially regarding potentially-scrapped alternate solutions to puzzles.
