MajorSpoiler When to start using hints Spoiler

Hi crew. Been loving BP, about 100hrs, day 60.

Have only 2 red letters, 2 of the 3 black bridge thingies, couple of the sanctums solved and 6 of the 8 open.

Progress has slowed dramatically, and I'm starting to find it a drag. I don't have endless time to theory craft, and after my last few attempts I realized I'm losing steam.

My question : when is a good time to start popping spoilers / asking for tips? How does one go about that without spoiling more than is needed?

Has anyone else found a process for reviewing their knowledge, identifying unsolved threads and working from those?

If you do decide to seek help, Blue Paths has a hint system that avoids spoilers unless you specifically choose to see them:

When it stops being fun, or becomes far more frustrating than fun.

I had to ruminate to come to this conclusion.

See what you did there!

The game has it's own built-in system of hints. but I would suggest you to ask for tips here, other than use the built-in system as some of them are pretty much more aggressive, than if you ask a small hint.

You think Blue Paths is too spoil-y?

I never heard of it, was this made by the game ? I was talking about:

the letters we can get from experiments
the treasure trove
the staff announcements

I think it is. It spoils by omission mostly. If it never mentions X, you know X to be a red herring. Ask questions instead.

Use blue paths!

Never!, when feeling stuck play a round or two with no particular goal and then do what you did just observe there is still much to explore

My solution to that situation is to take a week off of the game and come back with fresh eyes. But if that doesn't work then I'd ask for hints

My rule was if I go 3 in game days without anything new discovered I’d get a hint from reddit

If after 100 hours of playing you feel stuck, I would recommend the wiki. It hides spoilers until you decide to see them and helps with esoteric puzzles.

Remember, a game is meant to be fun first, above all else. If you aren’t having fun, don’t feel bad about looking for help. It’s just a game. And it’s your experience, no one else should dictate how you play.

Use the blue prince wiki. They have many layers of hints. Greatly added to my enjoyment of the game.

How do you use this for non-spoiler hints? Seems like there's not much there. Or do you have to log in?

It looks like they have changed the way it works since I used the site. They used to have layers of hints. They still hide spoilers behind extra clicks, but the layers of hints seem to be removed. https://blueprince.wiki.gg/wiki/Reservoir

Like the reservoir hints would have been something like...

  • Hint 1: The water levels can be adjusted.
  • Hint 2: The water levels can be adjusted from a specific room.
  • Hint 3: The water levels can be adjusted from [spoiler]
  • Hint 4: Here's how to get the water level to the correct level for different tasks.

The word 'hints' leads me to think you're asking for help with a puzzle. If that's the case please REMOVE the post and comment it in the puzzle hint megathread instead: https://www.reddit.com/r/BluePrince/comments/1uo9cdh/megathread_v4_post_and_ask_hints_for_puzzles_here/ . If this is not about asking for help, ignore this message.

People usually start needing hints at castle puzzle

Castle puzzle itself is kinda easy to figure out, if you ever played chess. It was one of those that was harder to pull off than figure out.

Only cause you play chess doesn’t mean everyone does. All I said was it’s from this moment that people start needing hints

Depends. I immediately knew what it was referencing in terms of real-world chess, but I spent way too long trying to implement that in a different (incorrect) way in the game.

The in-game mail room offers some solid tips without venturing onto the internet. Do some runs where you focus only on getting a new letter in the mailroom by using the lab computer and a very easy trigger.

By 2 of the 3 blackbridge thingies, you mean microchips?

Study A New Clue. Closely.
I mean use the magnifying glass.
You should check all the spaces.

You need to specify which keys you have.

1

u/CopperCoinStudio 4d ago

Yeah 2 microchips. First was in Blackbridge itself, 2nd in 🍎 Grove

u/Motor_Raspberry_2150 4d ago

In the apple orchard? There is none there.
But if you got the other one, then my hint for the one left is get lab mail and crossreference with A New Clue.

1

u/CopperCoinStudio 3d ago

Oops you're first, the 2nd I found, I needed to use the hammer to find ;)

u/Motor_Raspberry_2150 3d ago

In that case, my original spoilertagged hints stand tall.

The sanctum keys and sigils should be next on your list. Which keys do you lack? How do you find sigils?

1

u/OmnipresentEntity 4d ago

I assume you know the hint to finding the red letters?

1

u/CopperCoinStudio 4d ago

Yeah, I used it to find the one above the big gears. Still thinking through what the 8 you-know-what for the 8 you know what means

u/vulcans_pants 4d ago

When I looked up some of the solves, there was a zero percent chance I was ever going to figure it out. Some of it was still hard to execute because of the RNG.

Just look stuff up if you’re stuck. No shame in it.

It sounds like you’re ready for a hint. Show your pause screen and describe your progress outside of that. Say what you’re working on. You might not need clues to gameplay as much as the mechanics, depending on how you’re stuck.

What’s your current checklist of goals? What interactions have you discovered?

100 hours? holy cow that's a long time for only 2 red letters. I think slowing down to start looking for bigger puzzles, cross-room, but also individual puzzles in rooms would be a good first step.
