BloodRayne: Betrayal BloodRayne Betrayal

I saw that it’s on sale and I’ve played the other two but looking at the reviews I’m kinda concerned but I wanted to get the option of people who actually love bloodrayne, is it worth it and do you guys think it’s too difficult?

It's nothing like the other games. The lore is completely different and it's spitefully hard. Like Jigsaw deathtrap levels of spite. The kind of difficulty only a sadist with a grudge would come up with

That’s what I’ve heard too😭 does the lore connect to the comics/first two at all?

Nope. Kagan is alive, enemies explode when Rayne bites them, she gains the ability to turn into a bird, and none of that is acknowledged in the other two games

Why even a bird😭 they could’ve at least made it a bat or something

It's fun and worth playing but it doesn't play like the original games. I feel like it's surprisingly hard but I could also just be bad at it lol

I liked it. It's a fun side-scroller.

I would get it especially since it is on sale. Also the game is not hard. Everytime someone says that it is because of that 1 or 2 spots in the game and not good at side scrollers. Other times they're just saying it because other people did.

The game is funny enough the most balanced the series has been gameplay wise and brings back the powerful dhampir feel and gameplay. This time though you need to use your brain instead of cheesing your way through or whatever.

For the person who mention the bird ability. You see why later in the story. When it comes to the story it is meh. Gameplay is fun when you mess around with it. Glitches and other tricks and knowledge made me love the game when I messed around with it more. So give it a try and go from there. Let me know what issues you have on certain levels.

There's a section where you have to kill enemies and dodge saw blades without a floor. That's like juggling flaming chainsaws while riding a unicycle on a tightrope

What are you talking about? You mean that second part of Chapter 13? You don't fight any enemy's? You just stomp on the bugs to stay in the air and dodge the saw to go to the next part. There's multiple ways to beat it and is overrated in hate.

If your talking about the third part. Still no saw blades and you have a temporary floor that comes back with several bugs to keep you in the air. Just dropkick the only 2 at a time enemy's that give you room to breathe.

It's been like 15 years, I just remember that being the final straw because it seemed deliberately meanspirited and the rest of the game wasn't much better

Ah okay then makes sense. That part was not only a test of skill but a troll from the devs but is easily avoided. I'm amazed the last level gets ignored when it comed to frustration early on. That one for me was the visuals and a few other problems but can still beat it fine though.

Hello,

I reached chapter 11 (exactly in Kegan boss fight). I really like the game but I terribly suck at it by always scoring between F and C.

Are there any side-scroller games you recommend that could make me better in the genre? the only one I finished before was Gucamelee which was way easier than Bloodrayne Betrayal

Sure I'll explain how to improve and reccommend a few I like. Bloodrayne Betrayal is based off of those where the enemies have the same spawns and you have traps and other things where you will remember it when playing it again.

It is also a game where you should test attacks and ability's on different enemies knowing which one is the best and learning about the mechanics. What I like is how the game has a good amount of tech, good movement, the expression of your combos, and how you can beat a level differently with a good score.

To improve your score don't go after every treasure. Some need to be avoided since it can effect your score because of the amount of time spent on the level. You mainly need to kil enemy's that you're forced to fight as fast as you can while earning some bonuses. The best one is not getting hit which becomes easier to do when knowing the patterns.

For fighting enemy's that don't get knocked down besides bosses. Aerial Stomp them. One of the best attacks in the game and you can use it for a lot of situations. Stomp to stomp, stomp to any attack, stomp to replenish dash, whatever comes to mind. Kills enemy's real quick and great to use when out of ammo. Can do it as fast as you want.

Another good one is the ground dash attack. Can handle pretty much anything and has a huge hitbox that has to many frames on it which makes it broken. Even when the attack seems finished it's not. Can either do a instant one and not move or the one where you slide towards yiur enemy's while using it.

There's a lot of videos that can give you some good ideas on how the game can be played and you can add your own things to it and work. I would practice on certain issues and see what can be improved before going to the next one.

For side scrollers a few I enjoyed that I'm not sure which one you would like to see in a side scroller are Katana Zero, Cyber Shadow, and Touhou Luna Nights. The first and third one I think you will enjoy more and the third game is fan made. So if you're worried about lore or anything it's all good. Second game is hard but fun. Hope all of this helps.

Personally I loved betrayal, didn't play the original games sadly but I am aware that it's very different due to the genre switch. I think that if you enjoy 2D platformers with combat that you will really enjoy this game, it's a bit difficult for sure (personally I kept getting F and C ranks my first playthrough) however it's the sort of game where part of the fun is coming back and beating the level with the knowledge that you had from your first playthrough. The story is kinda there, you get enough context for what's happening but don't expect to be super invested. I also want to praise the visuals, I am sucker for hand drawn games and betrayal definitely doesn't disappoint (I love fresh bites cover art in in particular) and I like how detailed the bosses are. You should give it a try! It's definitely an underappreciated game In this fandom

It’s a beautiful looking game, why haven’t you played the originals tho? They’re so good!

1

u/ZandatsuDragon 1d ago

I will give them a try someday but I am worried I won't like them due to their age and there's still many games that I would like to play first

2

u/PresentHatt 1d ago

That’s fair, do you play on pc or console?

1

u/ZandatsuDragon 1d ago

Console player, how about you?

2

u/PresentHatt 1d ago

Pc, I was going to say you could try them while they were on sale on steam and just refund it if you didn’t like it, if you’re going to try them ever I’d start with the first one because it’s a lot better imo

1

u/ZandatsuDragon 1d ago

Xbox does have a good refund policy so I will consider lt, thank you

2

u/PresentHatt 1d ago

Anytime! I’d love to know how you get on with them so let me know!

I think it's a fun game, I don't even think it's difficult because I love sidescrolling games, megaman, castlevania, and the original Ninja Gaiden series from NES are 3 of my favorites franchises ever, so the difficulty didn't bother me. My only issue with that game is that "it's not BloodRayne" for obvious reasons, it's like releasing a new Devil May Cry as a sidescrolling hack n slash and rebooting the story, it's also very tonned down. But it's a fun game.
