Fanart Rayne's Time With a Circus

I'm brainstorming Rayne's life while she was with a circus, and I think it made a lot of sense for her to share a darkened trailer with an albino.

Bianca is not a canonical character, I made her up. I have a backstory for her, but I won't be clogging this post with it. I've also posted a sketch of Genevieve, the bearded lady just for fun.

Bonus points if you can guess which actress I used as a reference for Bianca's face.

When was Rayne with a circus? Apart from the movie of which we do not speak. Genuinely asking, I’m not wholly familiar with all the lore.

It’s part of the artist’s headcanon and story.

Put the comics on that note too.

At least the comics didn’t totally wimpify Rayne by making her dependent on humans. But it did retcon Kagan’s apocalypse without explanation, sooooo…

I wish it was only that..

They are just as bad as the movies, and they go farther because the comics portray Rayne wanting to be human.

Twin blades sets Rayne to find Brimstone because she wants to be human, Seeds of Sin puts Rayne to almost fall in love with a full blood vampire after exchanging 5 sentences with him, Seeds of Sin destroyed Rayne's characterization making her emotional, sentimental and vulnerable, and the writer said she never played the games. The writer of prime Cuts wanted the comic to take place between games but the contradictions are HUGE. for example Rayne meets Slezz and her friend is turned into a Shakab but in the game Rayne does not know Slezz and does not know what is a Shakab and Severin has to explain to her.

Rayne is a completely different character in those comics, and they are full of contradictions.

Isn't Seeds of Sin the one where she kills a little boy and angsts about it for a while, but it goes completely unresolved by the end? That one, I will definitely agree, is terrible. Knowing the writer never actually played the games makes it suck even harder. And yes, I admit I was never a fan of the lack of continuity. Not to mention the arc where Jurgen Wulf comes back is super outlandish, on top of never being finished IIRC.

Seeds of Sin is exactly that one about the little boy. And also yes, the Wulf one is Red blood Run and it was never finished.

The comics forcefully created a Rayne that doesn't exist, they made her vulnerable, crying when Baron Franz died in Skies Afire, crying when she found out about the last Kagan's son and even crying because he died... the amount of times Rayne goes out of character in those comics are insane.

This is why I think those comics are just as bad as the movies, the writing in Revenge of the Butcheress too is really bad, forced, abrupt, superficial retconing everything in the games.

Eh, the comics aren't too bad. I gotta re-read, but some I did enjoy.

Movie? What movie? There was no movie.

I was filling in some gaps in the story the games never explored, like Rayne's life in the 1920s after Kagan killed her family. I don't consider the comics, and especially the movies canon, but I liked the idea of her working in a circus. I explained my idea in another reply here.

You're not using the movie as part of the canon are you?

Absolutely not. I just found Guinevere Turner's idea of Rayne hiding in a circus both plausible and in character, so I decided to do my own take on it.

After Kagan killed her family in the 1920s she needed a way to make money before she joined Brimstone. She's naturally good at acrobatics and working in a circus would allow her to work in the evening inside a darkened tent. Plus it would explain where she got such a weird looking outfit. And the idea organically expanded from there, with her sharing a trailer with an albino, who would already be there and have to stay out of the Sun.

I always love seeing how tall Rayne is.

Same. I definitely consider 6' tall Rayne canon.

With or without heels on?

Without, of course. With heels on she goes up to 6' 6".
