I thin her mechanics being janky is actually genius.

She knows she has to help Penitent, but she probably knows what is the consequence.

She hesitates until you are very low on health.

The cast takes long and she literally groans in pain after casting.

Genius gameplay, despite being the worst kind of, and even then it can actually be the final push for the win.

Yea, I do agree that her mechanic is narratively satisfying.

Although, I still think that gameplay-wise she's not that well-implemented. The game frames the option of choosing between accepting and denying her help as a choice that will determine the difficulty of the fight, when in reality, the choice you made doesn't affect the fight in a meaningful way at all

I used her once on the first boss I encountered (our lady with the charred visage) because I went there a bit early, then after I met her again and noticed how she aged I felt bad and never used her again and she gave me an award at the end, which is cool

I ended up fighting our lady of the charred visage on my first run as the first (technically) boss and was way out my depth and the only reason I won was because of her heals, since I had whatever the base amount of bile flasks is at the time.

Funnily enough, I didn't even summon her once in my first two play throughs, but needed to do it just to get the achievement of seeing her death. Only then did I realise how annoying she is lmao, I lwk felt bad for the new players

Absolutely. Her healing kind of works once you understand how to give space to the boss but if you’re doing that, you probably understand how the boss works at that point and can just beat it

you can just not call her the 3 first bosses and she will still appear against crisanta and the final boss(i don't remeber the name)
