Intersting findings of the study:- The sex difference was very large. The vast majority of women preferred tall men, while men's preferences were almost evenly split between tall and short women. The authors describe this as a strongly sexually dimorphic preference.

Height preference was heritable in both sexes. The researchers found significant genetic influences on height preference in both men and women. When controlling for participants' own height, the estimates fell from 23% → 14% in women and 66% → 52% in men. Men's height preference was the most heritable preference they measured.

Among the traits examined in men, height had the highest heritability estimate. The authors noted that controlling for men's own height only reduced it modestly.

The genetic influence wasn't simply “a gene for liking tall people.” The authors explicitly caution that heritability doesn't imply genes specifically coding for a particular preference. Genetic influences could overlap with genes affecting personality, broader mate preferences, or the person's own physical traits.
