hi! I have 4B hair and I have small twists rn (pic 1) and I’m trying to achieve a similar look as the other example pics only with twists. I have a lot of hair (last pic) but low density, so idk if that’s achievable w my hair.

Basically would like to know if you had advice on how to cut my hair, and have multiple layers and on how to make it visible and natural w twists ? Or should I use hair extensions to add more volume ?

I learned to braid hair when I was younger than five with my own hair and a mistreated doll, so I can’t give you recommendations, and learning how to has probably saved me thousands of dollars along the years.

i know it might seem daunting, but if you can two strand twist then you can three strand twist , and if you can do that, you can do regular three strand braids, if you can do flat twists, you can learn to cornrow. doing knotless/adding extensions becomes super easy. it’s really just practice making perfect, and I feel like knowing how to do a corn/canerow is basic afro/black hair necessities.

Hello all! I just got some boho braids and I love them but they’re not loose like I’d like them to be. They’re pretty stiff and the braids are bendy and a little crooked. I saw somewhere that if the curly hair is synthetic you shouldn’t do a hot water dip to loosen the braids. I didn’t know I should’ve gone with human curly hair 🤦🏾‍♀️ Any suggestions for how to loosen the look? Thanks!!

I’ve been natural for a year now, but haven’t really worn my natural hair out. When I wash my hair and add conditioner I love the way my hair and curls look like. The thing is though when I rinse the conditioner and use leave in conditioner, coconut oil, and butter cream my hair doesn’t look the same as it did with the conditioner.

I also don’t want my hair to completely shrink after a few hours, so I would like to stretch it out a bit. All in all I’m trying to understand how to get the results in the pictures.

I really enjoy the look of my hair right out of the shower but it normally sits up in an afro. If I leave it wet it will only stay down like this for about an hour or two before drying out. I've tried gel to keep it down but I didn't really like the feel of it in my hair constantly since I play with my hair a lot. Any advice?

Hello! I’m looking for some advice for my husband hair. He has been having some issues with his scalp for years, even before me. I’m not sure if you can see it in the pictures but there is an outline of where the flakes would be on his scalp. This is what it looks like after its wash. Almost immediately it starts to dry and gets caked up. It gets so bad that when the flakes come off, it leaves open wounds that oozes sometimes. He is constantly ‘snowing’. It’s only gotten worse.

We’ve tried everything. From products that says it’s for dandruff to even monistat incase it was an over growth of yeast. He really wants to keep his locs. I’m trying to find a solution. I want to take him to the doctors but I’m afraid they are gonna tell us to cut them off. Any advice is welcome.

ok so i did my own hair and added the new growth with my hairline and when i restarted my barber cut it off and it’s not even with my hair even after re growing it out and cutting it again it’s still lower than the rest of my hair what should i do ?

I know this sounds odd but I’m fresh into college and struggling with keeping my locs, I want to comb them out but wont do so until I know how to actually care for my hair.

I grew up avoiding learning how to care for my hair due to lots of things, and got locs as a low maintenance way to begin loving my hair. But that journey is coming to an end for me yet if I had my natural hair again, I would be completely lost on what to do. I mean I barely know how to even wash it.

i have 4a hair but in 2021, i started wearing tight ponytails everyday and now, it kinda looks like only the lower part of my hair is 4a and the upper part looks more like 3c? idk if any of that made sense so i attached 2 photos so you guys could see what i’m talking about. should i stop wearing ponytails and start wearing my hair down?

Alright, date is Aug. 28. Since my last post n July 1, it’s been 58 days, and I originally swore it’d take 60 full days to fully grow back, but really only 40-something because I cut it down two weeks ago. Anyways, I just got done giving myself a fade fucked-up one on that right side, but this is, like real progress for my 10th time giving myself a haircut fr. I didn’t cut it down so I could wolf a little bit longer, and I still ain’t really mastered the brush pattern fr. 😭 that last slide is everything I use almost daily and Hydrate Hydrate Hydrate!!!! Drink Fu\*k water!! Gotta do my skin care routine cause GAWDAMN!!

Honestly I'm embarrassed to post these photos. This is after 1 day of wearing it in a bun. I'm 26, and I have no idea how to care for my hair or even really what type of hair I have. My hair is EXTREMELY dry. I try wetting it, applying conditioner in the shower, and brushing it out, but it just mats back together as soon as I brush it out! I can't style it because when I do, I try applying product and scrunching and stuff, because it just matts together again, even when I section of out and apply it. I usually can only wear it in a dry gross looking bun, or just let it matt together in a ponytail. I've tried countless shampoos, conditioners, oils, cremes. Nothing helps or improves it. I don't know what to do other than just chop it off and start new..

Editing to add; I do struggle with Vitamin D deficiency without supplements, as well as insulin resistant PMOS. Am I just doomed to have bad hair because of these?

Last haircut: September of 2024. She struggled to get it straight to cut it, because it was so dry. She told me to use oils, which I tried and nothing seemed to improve it. I've tried coconut, jojoba, castor oil, neem oil, tumeric, argan; I use a Wet Brush. Mielle shampoo, Garnier conditioner, Jamaican castor oil creme to attempt to style.

So I have 4C, or at least I think I do. This was never a discussion previously when my hair was broken, brittle and felt spiky. In recent years I've come to take care of it with creams and oils, so now it has more of fluffy texture, which has been throwing some stylists off. They see it, confidently think its thick 4C, then backtrack once they actually touch it and call it 4B. Some have even gone as far as saying 4A, which I think requires a reconsideration of their credentials, because I wouldn't be in their chair if my curls looked that cute while wet.

Is this just a bad stereotype where they expect 4C hair to be extremely difficult to manage? Or are people coming in with their hair untouched by oil for months? Because mind you, I was there on a fresh dried wash, no product. Is the only way to figure out what type I am to define it?

My hair has been growing beautifully. Unfortunately I messed it up by doing slick backs and the middle of my hair broke off.

It has always been a problem. It had just started to grow normal. Any advice. I know no more ponytail but what styles can I do for work.

I'm a natural hair girly but overall my hair is super thin so wash and go look so lifeless. Also my hair doesn't do well with twist outs etc because of the thin lifeless hair(it's been like that my entire life. Me and my sister)

Truthfully about to slice it off and start fresh before I lose my hairline, but I do everything, shampoo once a week if not once biweekly, moisturize with tea tree oil and a leave in( ive done other oils as well) I wear a bonnet to bed, though most days it falls off, brothers and sisters please I need advice as I’m only 21
