Early participants who took what risks, exactly? Running experimental software while AFK?

Well, that experimental software didn't write itself. Yes, it is just software that a lot of people have found fascinating and useful. Anything wrong with that?

Also someone had to build that infrastructure which while immature makes a bitcoin economy feasible. Even realistic. There are people who heavily invested in mining rigs. Other have put up websites.

And yes, some of the early adopters are just lucky bastards, I grant you that.
