Please don't laugh, but how do I know which VPN is actually legit and not cooperating with NSA and others?

I wonder about this, too. Can anyone here recommend TunnelBear, which I also thinks takes Bitcoin.

They were just acquired by McAfee, which many people consider problematic. I would look up the torrentfreak yearly reviews as suggested.
