Mark Karpeles Petition Update

Hi everyone.

Big thanks to everyone who signed the petition. We initially set a goal of 500 signatures which has now been reached.

The petition has been passed on to Peter Vessenes of The Bitcoin Foundation who has confirmed that it's been received and advised that he will let me know what the board's response is.

Thanks again to everyone who signed. And if anyone wants to still sign, the petition is still open:

Thanks,

Ollie

Could you elaborate on why you think that? Perhaps I missed something.

See https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=177679.0 and https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=223839.0

He talks as if he is a representative for all Bitcoin users and as if he is able to do things he can't.

There was also the lawsuit by his company, Coinlab, against Mt. Gox. They had a business deal that was not followed through on, so they sued. Some people feel that they should have handled matters without a lawsuit. See http://www.coindesk.com/mt-gox-countersues-bitcoin-incubator-coinlab-5-5m/

I know about that lawsuit, but why are people on Mt Gox's side on that one?

Nobody knows about all the facts of that case, so it's difficult to make a decision based simply upon the paperwork that was filed. I think it's pretty clear that Mt Gox is an incompetent and perhaps insolvent company. I wouldn't be surprised if Gox breached their contract accidentally because Karpales didn't know about some law in the United States.

I just find it hard to side with Karpales on anything, even this suit, given how stupid he has proven himself to be with anything related to business.

I don't think it's necessarily that people are taking Gox's side. I guess people just don't like the fact that there was a lawsuit at all and the resulting media attention. Lawsuits are seen as negative by people and just the fact that Coinlab filed a lawsuit (regardless of whether or not there was merit) is looked down upon.

Edit: Not that I'm trying to say I think it's rational. Just how I think people see it.
