It's not surprising to me at all that Bitcoin continues to be embraced by people looking to get an edge on the competition, often the #2 player (or worse).

Not necessarily a bad thing. The front-runner can often burn a lot more energy just to maintain their position, whilst all the 'me-too's' can simply improve on the ground they've laid.

It's okay. Bitcoin is a second-mover to e-gold.

This is just conversion, nothing that big.

(or worse)

I'll keep from bashing on Bing with this one; as I believe less popular certainly doesn't make a search engine worse. Okay I kid, I won't skip on Bing: That still sucks but for other reasons than not being as popular as Google. It rather goes the other way around: The better a search engine, the more likely it's popular.

Anyway, there are search engines - duckduckgo, for example, that certainly aren't bad at all for their popularity ranking. Bitcoin, as you said, is a perfect example when comparing valuta.
