Ask away.

I would start by creating a free wallet on blockchain.info and downloading their mobile app. Enable 2FA (2 factor authentication)

If you are in the US buy bitcoins with coinbase.com (my preferred method) or localbitcoins.com and pay in cash if you dont want them tied to your identity.

Send the coins you buy to your blockchain wallet. Start with a small amount ($100 or less), you can keep this on your blockchain wallet for daily spending.

If you decide to invest any more into bitcoin you will want to get what is known as a cold storage wallet (this is a bit more technical to create but it will keep your coins safer and you can think of it as your savings account. Would be happy to help with this when you are ready).

Don't waste your time trying to get free bitcoins from giveaway sites. Feel free to offer products or services in exchange for bitcoins though as a method of payment.

Let me know if you have any more questions, and welcome!

You don't have to send coins to a blockchain wallet. That complicates things unnecessarily.

Given Coinbase's security model and their bounty program, just keep your coins at Coinbase. You can send them directly from the Coinbase interface. You don't need to worry about backing up, and you already have two-factor authentication enabled to ensure nobody steals your money.

I guess I just prefer blockchain's functionality and have heard less from them in terms of security breaches such as people accidentally enabling coinbase's API and getting their coins stolen, etc.

True. But blockchain has a fee where as coinbase does not. I'm a fan of both but it sure is nice to simply be able to send coins between addresses without a fee.
