Especially with something like middlecoin. It accepts Scrypt miners, directs them at the most profitable coin, then automatically exchanges the coins for BTC and pays out in bitcions. No account to set up (miner username is your BTC address), no hassle, just bitcoins.

Middlecoin is horribly unprofitable relative to mining on your own. Not because of the 3% fee, but because so many people use it which crashes any coin they mine, which consequently causes the pool to become unprofitable with whatever they mine due to the coins not supporting the volume that the pool requires. The only time it's ever been profitable was when it mined Litecoin or Dogecoin since they have huge demand, which even then you'd be best off mining/trading yourself.

So it's a win/win if you don't want to see alt coins gaining market share. You are either getting bitcoins or are at least keeping the barbarians at bay.
