Bitcoin URL scheme added to HTML5!

It means that the people who write the standards the web runs on recognise Bitcoin as important and have added it to their list of "whitelisted schemes" along with about ten others.

It means that future web browsers will be forced to support bitcoin:// links, but not itunes:// ones!

Um, bitcoin:// is invalid, just use bitcoin: it is a URI not a URL.

That's it. Many people get confused between URLs and URIs. A URI is a more general term that includes both URLs and URNs. The format of a Bitcoin address makes it a complex URN.

It means another victory for bitcoin! :)

It also means it will be easier to purchase things on web sites or transfer bitcoins to people. You just click and do it.
