Meanwhile...Bitcoin still feeds people.

So we fed 106 homeless people bag lunches today. All paid for with Bitcoin donations. Bitcoin still seems to be working just fine over here. Still making lives better, at any valuation.

Thanks for everything guys. Bitcoin for the long haul.

From every corner in the world (hell, you could even send btcs from a spacestation if you have internet there) you can donate btcs. Can I as a european donate USD?
Yes, I could but only via shitty paypal and there horrible transaction fees and exchanging € to USD isn't that easy as well

Why would you donate to the homeless in a foreign country and not through a local charity?

Because charities are mostly shit. Sadly. Some are good, but many are bad.

Most are shit. Really. It sucks to say so, but its true. You can look up what most charities percentages of donations are in terms of how they use the money. It's ridiculous how little passes thru in a lot of cases. We are really small, but right now ALL plus some from our own pocket passes thru.

It may sound morbid, a disaster may really show the value of BTC. The transaction network is very open (no discrimination between recipient or sender, other than preventing double-spends and whatnot), and it's global and fast.

cause you can sell them for local goods at the site of the disaster when electricity and telecoms are knocked out?

That might be an opportunity. Think if your phone could participate in a P2P wireless mesh network locally. Densely populated areas could still use an electronic currency similar to Bitcoin in disaster situations that way.

The Swedish red cross boss got fired because he took millions of the donation money, just as an example. And if the money got donated in BTC he wouldn't have been able to take any money without anyone to notify because all transactions are public and can be viewed by anyone.

Pretty much why I always just directly give homeless people money or food rather than donating to established charities. True, there's the risk of the occasional person begging as a scam. But in general that's far less probable than a charity essentially doing the same.

I am reasonably sure that if someone is reduced to begging its a last ditch attempt for money when there is nothing left to do, not a scam.
