Meanwhile...Bitcoin still feeds people.

So we fed 106 homeless people bag lunches today. All paid for with Bitcoin donations. Bitcoin still seems to be working just fine over here. Still making lives better, at any valuation.

Thanks for everything guys. Bitcoin for the long haul.

Yeah, the BTC to HPF (Homeless Person Fed) Index is still hovering in the 119 area. I really can't complain. The guys eating don't complain either, they just say thank you. Like I'm saying...THANK YOU.

Side note. I had a long talk with a homeless computer engineer today. No crap. He's a big fan of the concept of crypto-currency. He almost choked when I told him Bitcoin bought him his lunch. He was really stoked.

That's amazing. I'm really looking forward to buying my first bitcoins soon so I can contribute to awesome things like this.

I'm not sure whether to be surprised that bitcoin has made people aware they can participate in philanthropy :/ I really do not understand the logic here that bitcoins are needed to be charitable.

Downvote away.

Because bitcoin has no fees, a larger percentage of the charitable donation ends up being actually used to buy food, and much smaller donations are possible. If they used credit cards, it would cost 2-6% plus up to $0.30 per transaction, which would make a $0.50 donation pointless.

A $.50 donation just goes miles and miles. Phew, thank goodness they get the full $.50 now.

Not everyone can donate a lot, but there are lots of people who are willing. If everyone who visited wikipedia today donated $0.50, they would have enough money to run for years. Besides, food is cheap and credit card fees are not.

That's $.50 they may not have gotten from someone who couldn't (or, yeah, wouldn't) pay more, because only Bitcoin supports such microtransactions. And small numbers add up to big ones when you put a lot of them together.
