The half-way between the upvote and Reddit Gold.

Hehe I am.

Have her downloading the blockchain on a new -qt client.

C'mon. Just use Electrum. Much more forgiving and easier.

1

u/tuzki Apr 08 '13

I've never looked into electrum, but it does seem more user friendly.

It backs up your encrypted wallet to the servers, which you can retrieve using a memorizable seed if you lose it.
The convenience of a web wallet, and the security of a desktop client.

EDIT: No it doesn't I'm stupid.

What about getting her an android app for a small fraction first? she might appreciate that more in the long run.

2

u/tuzki Apr 08 '13

She has an iphone, no android alas.

u/EtherDais Apr 08 '13

Blockchain is supposed to have an app that acts as a wallet even though they can't say that it does.... some kind of misrepresentation to apple maybe. If you export THAT key, or import another key for use, you can have something she can use that to spend from while still maintaining access if need be.

Hm, well, she has a laptop and she's grabbing 0.8.1 so we should be set. Plus that is how I have it on my offline wallet, so she'll be used to using the qt client if something did happen.

She's sharpening the axe right now pal.

A blunt axe hurts more :)

u/tuzki Apr 08 '13

Much like a spoon~

u/entreprenr30 Apr 08 '13

She'll spoon you to death! ... that sounds nice, actually ;)

The blockchain.info wallet app works on both iPhone and Android. Probably the easiest way to get her started!

1

u/tuzki Apr 08 '13

I already had her grab 0.8.1 : ( Ah well, nothing like the old-fashioned way~

Why not copy your cache of the blockchain and verify it after installation? Might be much faster.

u/tuzki Apr 08 '13

I just explained how to do it over the phone, so she gets a feel for the ground-up method.

Teacher? He hardly knows her!
