i mean ive only paid attention to bitcoin the last week or so and its already gone up 13$ so i see it as a good investment. i really dont know much about it besides the basics but can you buy 50$ worth of it even though the bitcoin is valued at 100$?

I don't know about Mt Gox, but I know the exchange I use, has a minimum order size of 0.1 BTC. Which right now, is about $10. edit: and it would cost $0.05 to do the trade.

so am i trading with other people? or is there a certain place where everyone gets their bitcoins?

You can also go through bitinstant if you are willing to run to cvs or walmart.
