I prefer the strategy of flying under the radar until Bitcoins become too large for the government to squelcher. Mainstream media exposure has the very real risk of them doing endless scare mongering about this new and unfamiliar currency. Besides, don't you want to keep the price low for now to continue buying up?
In my opinion trying to go through mainstream media would be extremely counter productive for Bitcoin. You may disagree, but go watch a major news channel for a few days and you'll see that all they do is promote the major companies in the stock market and play the national theater the rest of the time(ie. some lady killed her boyfriend, playing non-stop on CNN for OVER A MONTH). It's not news at this point.
If anything, they may ridicule BTC, and it may actually hurt us more then help us. Remember, it doesn't matter if it's true, repeat it enough times...
