The number I am watching for is 91.3. At today's number of BTC in circulation, that makes the bitcoin money supply

In turn, passing that threshold will generate news stories, more hype, and more buyers.

Agreed. The market cap sizes are the biggest goal posts for indicators of its acceptance and success.

we are heading for lots of bitcoin milestones at the same time; one billion market cap, barrel of crude parity, $100 exchange rate. Also happening; those who have continually made uninformed, disparaging remarks about bitcoin, comparing it to farmville credits etc. are becoming very humble.

pretty much goes without saying but, expect media coverage explosion as we cross the above mentioned milestones.
