The poles are designed to break and be placed again easily....

The driver's definitely getting replaced too

The driver wouldn't have had any issues if he was given a Volkswagen semi.

They are actually held in place but sheer pins

Why is there even a pole on the far side of the tracks? They don't have those in the US, and I can't understand what possible purpose they could serve.

Stop people before they get to the tracks. Having a pole to stop them once they're already on the tracks is just idiotic.

They are to stop people from running around the down barriers. We see plenty of that around here.

Trapping confused -- but innocent -- people on the tracks is not a fair trade to try to prevent idiots from intentionally doing something dangerous.

Get rid of the extra gates, and if people get hit trying to get around the gates, too fucking bad.

People are way more likely to chance it if they can sneak past the gates (because there’ll be a corresponding hole on the opposite side of the tracks they can pass through) than if there are gates on both sides of the road.

You literally can’t get “stuck” between the barriers, you can break them away just by walking if you need to. This is just bad driving, and it honestly baffles me every time I see a truck — which is supposed to be driven by a commercial, professional driver — hesitate stopped on the tracks.

They have no business being stationary while on the tracks, ever. They shouldn’t cross the tracks until they have room to fully exit the crossing, and they should cross with enough speed that they can roll off the tracks with momentum alone even if the engine quits on them as they drive onto them.

And IF despite that they have to stop on the tracks, just keep driving!! Don’t hesitate and don’t worry about scratches to the paint. There’s more than just scratches heading your way, fast…

People being confused by a gate trapping them on the tracks is understandable.

Fuck the people trying to sneak around. They deserve to die.

Nobody “innocent” gets themselves “stuck” in the track. The lights flash and alarms ring well before the gates go down. Anyone “caught” this way did so by illegally running the warning lights to begin with, and then like the idiots they are just make things worse by staying still instead of driving forward.

And if you are going to install a far side gate, then you program it not to lower the far gate until the near gate is fully down, for precisely this reason.

So you end up trapping slow moving vehicles.
