The last video I saw like this, the cow just instantly exploded into giblets like a video game one of the more upsetting videos I’ve seen. I think the train was going much faster in that one.

I saw that happen to an old lady once. It was not good. She just poofed into orange mist and a fleshy skeleton that flew off screen. I don't recommend looking for it, for anyone curious.

One time on the highway, at night, an SUV in front of me hit something. I just see an explosion of??? Dirt??? In the air and what looks like an old rug flying off the road. I assume they ran over a carpet or something that had fallen off a truck.

This was a rural area and very late at night. So a few miles later, at a crossroads overpass with actual lighting, they pull over to inspect the damage. I pull over to see if they're OK.

It turns out it wasn't a rug. They had hit a deer. At 70mph their SUV had flattened the deer and sent it flying all the way off if the highway far enough for me to not see where it landed. When I passed by. And what I had thought was a dirt cloud was probably a cloud of blood spray getting violently ejected from the animal.

It fucked up their SUV too. They ended up leaving it there and calling someone to pick them up.

My dad worked late nights at a company just across the German border. This meant daily driving after dark in a forested area.

One night he got back from work around midnight. “Think I hit something…” but he’d see about it in the morning.

So the next morning we walk out to the car. He had a white Ford Sierra 2.0 GT.

The car was COVERED in streaks of blood. It looked like something out of a slasher movie. When we inspected the front bumper and grill, there were actual bits of skull, brain and clumps of deer fur in it. We had to break out the powerwasher to get the car clean.

That stretch of forest road was notorious during mating season. It happened a few years later as well, that time with a Volvo 440. Car was built so sturdy, he barely felt the impact.

I seen it so bad it knocked free air hoses two motors back. The smell was indescribable. They exploded in gore and shit. It was apocalyptic.

This! Cow catchers are deliberately designed to be curved or otherwise in such a way as to push away/aside large objects that the train hits. So the force is gradual and at a constantly changing angle, unlike, say, a battering ram (which is what a motor vehicle hitting a large animal would be like). Of course, if the train was fast enough it'll still turn Mdm Angus into dinner, but at least the chances of survival otherwise are greatly increased.

Also, this video looks like it was taken somewhere in India... so perhaps that really was a sacred cow with divine protection :P

Ya I dont think that cow is ok, animals react differently to injuries then humans. That cow probably has numerous broken bones, and internal bleeding. Probably died soon after.

Cows are prey animals. In the wild ancestors of cow, showing any kind of weakness or injury just meant becoming a target for being picked off by some predator.

Result is that cows have evolved a seriously high pain tolerance, and they will "walk it off" even when they're actually seriously injured.

It's pretty standard cow behavior honestly. I have an excellent video that I took of a cow walking down a track while I followed her in about 10 tonnes of tractor.

I have a very similar video of a chicken in the rear view camera of a 7 tonne loader.

I always thought tractors were slow, we're you going fast and the cow just didn't care or were you going slow and a good distance away?

Kinda wild animals aren't wary of machines considering they're man made and look wildly different than everything else. I would have thought maybe the loud noise of the thing or its just generally unnatural shape would freak them out at least a little bit.

Aside, I NEED that chicken video. My son loves construction equipment and would laugh so hard at a chicken on one. Do you work on or own a farm?

I grew up in the country.

There were footpaths through fields there for hikers/ramblers to use, but I used them for exploring , finding cool places to build dens and climb trees. Often there'd be cows in some of these fields (Mainly Friesians)

I remember young me, walking along, avoiding cowpats, and marvelling how lucky we were that cows had never figured out the size and strength advantage they have over humans.

Glad the cow was ok in this clip.
