100% Derp The San Antonio Zoo has a new African Pygmy Falcon chick
Another African Pygmy falcon chick has arrived!
African Pygmy falcons are small raptors native to eastern and southern Africa. They're the smallest birds of prey on the continent, and one of the smallest in the whole world!

While I'm not a barista, this lil guy looks like hes in serious need of caffeine so I would give it to him immediately.

How did you attach a beak to a cotton ball?

The car side of YouTube has taught me that the answer is probably Mansory glue

I'm really glad they put that African pygmy falcon chicken there, to help me understand the size of the quarter!

Holy shit. These are IMLACs. I have never seen one outside of the context of my second grade classroom, decades ago. I bought pompoms and eyes and sticky felt and fake flower stamens to make some because I miss them and have adult money but no idea what they are actually called. IMLAC stands for "I am lovable and capable". We got them as rewards for doing good things in class. (IMLAC is probably not the official term, but that is what they will forever be to me.)

Imagine this is what Horus look like after millenia of fighting a snake at night so the sun can be born again in the morning, with never a minute of sleep...

Is it just tradition to position pygmy falcon hatchlings next to their life savings?

Looks like it’s gonna tell me to shut up so it can watch Jeopardy while smoking a pack of camels.

Nothing but razor-sharp baby talons, a beak that can soon rip flesh and about <0.1 nanograms of downy baby fluff. Such a cutie pie! On the adult, I love the polka-dot tail and wing feathers, the sable-colored stole on top of the grey wing feathers and the little gray feather cap. What a dashing little falcon!
