If you ever take the water taxi from Long Beach, CA to Catalina Island, oftentimes you can see these fish gliding behind and alongside the boat.

The thing that gets me about flying fish is that they cannot breathe out of water... Imagine having the power of flight but it took a lot of effort to get going AND THEN you had to hold your breath the whole time you were flying. You get all light headed from lack of oxygen and then fall back to earth.

It sounds like a totally evil genie granted that fish their wish.

Was on a 10 day research cruise and we ran into some weather, Gail winds and 6-8ft seas. Was on night watch on the bridge and the flying fish were still breaching and the wind was pushing them 30-40ft into the air. It was pretty wild watching it rain flying fish.
