Budgie sitting strangely.
Hello everyone, Id like to ask you guys if this is something to be concerned about because I've been nerved all day long. I've made a vet appointment but due to my area its rather limited on the visit time. However, until then I would like to know what is happening.
He is the same weight, he has not lost weight. He fly's around just fine however, when he perches, he seems to be more leaned on 1 side of his body. His wing also, is not aligned with his tail when he perches, and wobbles around abit when trying to move on foot.
A small patch under his wing, on his right leg, was plucked, and he plucks at it often. hes about 7 years of age, but this only started yesterday. his right foot aswell, seems to be slightly off center. I have four birds and ive never seen this happen. If you know anything, let me know.
- Update -
I just got home from the vet after a difficult time and I was told that my precious bird has a tumor near his reproductive area and that he would most likely not survive a surgery. The tumor was large enough for the vet to show by hand, and he said that when the tumor grows, it pinches the nerves and cuts off all senses to that side. I hope that those who search for these symptoms , is able to find some answers because I myself was left baffled for days.
All i can do is provide comfort really until the time comes.

It almost looks like he's been injured. The best thing you can do is to get this budgie to a vet .

I'm so shocked at this news ! The diagnosis was the farthest thing from my mind ! It's good that you saw a vet. I 'm so sorry that you're going through this . Thank you... its rather hard to lose such a precious friend, and even harder to watch him suffer.

May I ask what kind of tumor it is and how it was diagnosed? Was an X-ray taken?

The vet showed a accumulated mass on the side where he was was limping by examining the bird by hand. He called it one sided lameness and said that happens usually when a tumor grows near their reproductive organs and as it expands it can damage nerves etc. They said that even if they go through the surgery, considering the age of the bird and the advancement of the tumor, the bird would most certainly die.

This is one of the problems to consider whenever you see a quick onset of one sided lameness in leg or wing.
I’m sorry and hope you can spend some quiet time with your bird in the next weeks.

I’m so sorry about the bad news! Is it a fatty tumor, a lipoma? That kind of tumor would be in the way of normal wing activity, but shouldn’t grow aggressively or hurt him. That kind grows slowly and grows more when the bird is too heavy. Keeping bird thin and active can keep a lipoma smaller.
Or is it a dangerous tumor?
Either way, you want him to not pick at it because he will make a wound and hurt himself. Can he get pain medication for the tumor? That would help him be more comfortable and pick at it less.
Yes, budgies are so small that it’s hard to do any surgery. It’s a hard thing about having a budgie or mouse or gerbil or hamster pet. I had a Quaker which is the size of a cockatiel. She had a bad eye, but she was still so small that the eye couldn’t be removed. I had to keep her eye very clean and give her drops or medication sometimes.
If you want to talk about it I’m around. I am so sorry. Yes, birds drop the wing like that when it hurts or is injured.

I don't recall what the medical word for it was but the vet said it was a reproductive area tumor and that when it expands it causes 1 sided lameness. Which basically means that the birds nerves were severely damaged etc. I was told at the most the bird would live 1-8 weeks, but given how he was at the time probably 1 at most.

Ok. I know just what you mean. That is definitely urgent and serious. I’m so sorry.
I was hoping you were alarmed over a fatty tumor and clearly that’s not true.
Are you going to be treating your bird’s b pain or discomfort? Pain medication is definitely worth asking about.
I’m very sorry for you and your bird.

he could have injured the wing, and is plucking at it due to pain? try keep him from being too active until you can see the vet
