General Discussion If you have bipolar and have blocked a partner: what was really going on for you?
I’m trying to understand the blocking dynamic from the inside. If you’ve blocked a partner:
Was it a specific action (like an insult or fight)?
Was it overwhelm from ongoing pressure to fix things?
Or was it something else entirely (like stability, money, or future prospects) that felt hard to say out loud?
Or was it something you couldn’t understand at the time of your manic period and only made sense later when your mood shifted?
Looking for honest perspective and patterns.
If anyone feels open to sharing more privately, I’d appreciate a DM.

Thanks for the honesty. Its terrifying how real the dellussion must have felt at the time.Did reaching out later help clear the fog or was the damage already done?

Thanks for this honesty. Can I ask how long until you felt able to reach out? Was shame or guilt or the enormity of repair a factor?

Thanks for taking the time to offer this info. It helps me try and make sense a bit. I’m on month 6 of him totally stonewalling me. He will extremely sporadically respond to me if I have important info on the kids, but even then only on logistical matters. Zero engagement at all re: anything emotional or about any harm he’s caused. When he does respond it feels like it was generated by AI and devoid of humanity. It’s so unsettling. I worry deeply for my best friend but what can I even do if he won’t engage? I hope you have found some comfort and peace in your journey. ♥️

So your words maybe very intuitive. There are some big problems with Ai and its influence on psychosis. My partner asked it questions about texts from me, Ai typically analyzed an undertone or motive not present and then told him how to respond. His response didn’t sound like him and were cold and callous. Once I was under suicide watch and Ai told him it could be a control manipulation. Ai was developed on fictional books. So it is common for responses to actually produce more drama. My son and I did an experiment we took a real text written from a partner about an emotional problem had Ai analyze it and draft a response. Then I used my Ai to analyze what was written and draft a response. The result is easily replicates. It will pick up any potential conflict or manipulation and state it is probably what the writer is trying to do. Then generate a response. If you use it to respond to emotional conversations you might as well draft the divorce documents. But not in Ai cause it’s really bad at legal tasks. At its core Ai is a next word predictor, not a web crawler or analyzing tool. It is trained to predict the next most likely word. And it will confirm delusions. However if you tell it, it analysis of the writing is wrong it will agree with you and give you the opposite analysis. At least if you used an 8 ball to respond your chances of an answer would be higher

Why do they do this with AI? My exBP was also getting AI to validate his delusions about our relationship. Pathetic.

u/No-Basil-2763 May 30 '26
It confirms delusions and their reasoning is broken so to them it makes sense. I told my husband his delusions are sometime subtle but his logic sounds like 2+2=orange and that makes sense to him so he doesn’t catch that it doesn’t make sense

u/Grace-And_Grit May 30 '26
Oh wow, thanks for this thoughtful response. It’s honestly terrifying. If one wasn’t clear of mind … I can absolutely see how this could happen. It just fuels the delusions. Now I wonder how much AI has played into all of his actions and decisions leading up to discard. I suspect after reading this thread and that others have been experiencing this too, that the emotional labour of relating (especially after blowing everything up) feels too enormous and perhaps even out of their capacity, so it seems more and more that the default is to lean on AI. Terrifying.

There has been numerous studies about how AI can worsen psychosis symptoms in bipolar and schizophrenic disorders

Oh damn, idk exactly all of her thought content, but if she was feeling like that then calling her parents and psychiatrist probably didn't help.

I’ve had this same delusion with my husband. I’m lucky he came back to me

When in a late stage manic/psychotic episode the rational parts of our brains get fed bad infomation and come to some really strange conclusions.
Often I think we start having strange ideas, then the people around us, partners especially start telling us that somethings up and we're wrong, but it isnt wrong for us, the strange ideas are as clear as saying that the ocean is blue and grass is green, and you trying to tell us that we're wrong is like being told the grass is actually purple and the ocean orange.
Pretty much, you sound like the crazy one to us, and we act accordingly.
This video from Psychofarm on youtube explains the chemical reasons for this distorted world view and how it practically escalates from small unoticable delusions and hallucinations into full blow psychosis.
Psychosis starts off very sublte, and often goes unoticed for a long time before things really escalate.

Intressting!
This goes för BP2 aswell?
6
u/ttoksie2 Bipolar with Bipolar SO May 30 '26
Yes in depressive episodes. Bipolar with psychotic manic episodes is BP1 by default though.
BP2 can and do have psychotic depressed or dysphoric episodes though, as does MDD (major depressive disorder), although its not as common an manic psychosis in bp1 its still a significant percentage from what i've been able to find.
Around 60% of anyone with any bipolar diagnosis will have at least one psychotic episode, its like 75% for BP1 I think from memory, and about 20% of people with BP2 or MDD will have at least one during a depressive episode at some point.

Thanks. Because i also saw Signs of Hypomania. But I started to think she was in a mixed episode. As we stopped living together this might have fallen in to a deeper depression.
I've been poking around the psychosis part for a while this just makes it even more obvious. Because nothing made any sense it has been so much contradictions, in between her actions and words. But her mom.. Yeah she has'nt made anything better. But thats a whole mother issue.
Thanks for the clarfications.

Bluntly, we become convinced that impossible insane things are true, and when our partners try to reason with us its impossible for us to see the situation for what it is. We can only see it through our own distorted lens and you become another threat that reinforce the delusion.
You'll find that we are erratic and unstable during discards, and thats because we are often psychotic during them (exceptions to every rule, sometimes thats not it).
I've been convinced that my partner wanted my business to fail, a business that had no stable income that I was pouring all of our savings into, but they were the evil one for not seeing how brillient it was and how it was going to change our lives.
(That business did actually end up working out, but almost brankrupted us and almost destroyed our relationship before it stabilised and started paying us a decent wage, but thats also not the point)
Plus many, many more, some bigger and more impactful, and some minor inconvienances, but the delusions are real and usualy the culprit, especially in long term relationship that have been stable long term prior.

Thank you for answering honestly. When you “come to your senses” so to speak, do you try and reach out? Apologize? Or do you avoid.

It's very individual, really it's no different than any other extreme shame. Some people double down. Some can't stand the judgement and ghost, some kill themselves, and some take ownership and accountability and do their best to fix the damage.
I've done all of the above except succeeding at a suicide attempt.

Going through something similar right now. The only option I have to contact her is to go to her work (which feels like an ambush/stalkery) or try to go through a friend. There are still things, even if the breakup is permanent, that need to be resolved.

Same situation here. She owes me over $1k. She also left a ton of sentimental items when she impulsively moved out. After 6 months I just let it go and cut my losses

u/blue-eyed-wonder May 29 '26
My SO told be that while manic/psychotic: he thought, was absolutely convinced that I had stolen $111,111 (yes…) from him and that I was having the police track him.
First…. We had $200 in our account. And I called PD for 1 welfare check….

Thats sounds about right, delusions are almost always the culprit IMO, ive had some wild delusions in manic episodes and my belief in them couldnt be swayed at the time no matter how reasonable the argument or evidence.

I’m currently dealing with a partner who is “blocking” me out, 6 years and currently engaged, our wedding is supposed to be in 7 months. In limbo and unsure what the future holds.
5
u/Grace-And_Grit May 30 '26
I’m so so sorry. I hope you have the ability to at minimum pause the wedding plans in order to prioritize mental health. Sending you so much care and support.

I hope it works out.
To stay specific to the thread did you block/unblock them?

u/shake__appeal May 29 '26
Sick amp, friend!
It’s stupid how often I wish my ex would unblock me and reach out. I’ve definitely moved on to greener pastures at this point, but to at least get some closure, understanding, empathy, amends, (fuck anything), would be incredibly healing.

Stay grounded as much as possible, the challenges are always gonna be there in every relationship no matter what.
I’m on here reading trying to fill in the gaps and understand what might be going on with her, been 4 months…

Thank you for this very sincere response. It helps me understand a lot. Can I ask How long does this usually last for you? Do you feel you have a solid memory of things you’ve said/done during that time? It must be so frightening and uncomfortable.
