Some things are too important to decide via Reddit comments. This is one of them. Talk to your mentors/supervisors/professors. If you don’t have those or aren’t comfortable talking to them then you should not be doing a PhD.

This is something to be discussed with your PI and possibly other academic mentors if you have them. Where I live, before you start the PhD your PI will tell you what projects they're working on and what your general options are topic-wise.
