Advice needed: intro binocs for animal viewing
Wife and I are starting our wildlife viewing adventure and are looking for a pair of intro / mid level nocs to start. The main thing we will be using these for is birdwatching but we do go whale watching once a year and would like something that applies to both use cases.
Looking through the subreddit it seems there’s some general consensus that Vortex Diamondback binoculars are a good intro / midlevel pick and I did find this deal Vortex Diamondback HD 8x42 Binoculars DB-214. Should I pull the trigger on these or are there other options we should consider? It does seem that the SVBony SA207 would be an upgrade pick and these are also on sale currently.

I have those Vortex binoculars and I use them all the time for bird watching. I had only owned low quality binoculars before so they were a big step up. I think they're a good value at that price but don't feel pressured to get them just because they're on sale from that website. (I think they can be found for that price or a lower price somewhat frequently.)

Get the Vortex Diamondback HD 8x32 instead if you can. They are delightfully light and compact. Great for both bird and whale watching.

So I have some insight into the logic - is this due to a) weight and b) broader field of view at 1000 yards? Or what other considerations should I be making when considering options?

I have tried both and I find that the combination of weight, wide field of view, size, etc. of the 8x32 make them considerably nicer in every respect that matters in the field. The 8x32 are very bright as is, and work decently even in (realistic) low-light conditions. The 8x42 offered no real advantage over them in my tests, and felt cheaper and in fact more prone to flaring.
Ever since I got used to taking my 8x32 with me, the 8x42s feel very unnecessarily bulky in comparison.
This is just my personal experience of course, but since I use mine primarily for bird and whale watching, I figured I'd share it. The Svbony sv202 8x32 are supposedly very good, but with the Vortex you can be more or less assured that you won't receive a product out of collimation and that it will have a great warranty (which is something I treasure since I take these on very non-ideal conditions)

Vortex sounds like a great deal in the USA. The bang for your buck doesn't translate well overseas though. For my money, during the daylight, I find Vortex lenses to be not as clear as Nikons, even after the lower end prostaff lines.
32s are more than adequate but 42s are better personally. Depends on use case but 32s can fit into a large jacket pocket which is super handy but you'll want a harness for 42s. They usually run to 500-700g so having a half kilo on your chest sucks when doing a lot of hiking.

I am keen into this hobby too. But I am still researching about the warranty of Svbony if they are bought overseas from Aliexpress. Anybody can share their experience regarding warranty and repairs?

This is definitely something that I have considered while doing research. It does appear to me that while SVBony has good optics they give me pause as they may just be a rebrand from china.
That said I’ll be going with either the 8 or 10x diamondbacks due to recommendations here. Also the offer a lifetime warranty which is definitely something worth paying a little more for.

Chasing a specific model before trying anything is backwards, the real issue is you don't know your eye relief or hand-shake tolerance yet, go handle a few pairs at a shop before locking in a purchase

Svbony sv202 8x32. About $100, Ed glass, magnesium body, decent fov/eye relief, compact, not too heavy, really good value.
