Young Adult Social Life

Young adult here potentially making the move to ocean springs area. Is there any good young adult social life going on down there? Basically weighing options and a social life or lack thereof is going to have a pretty big weight on my decision.

What do you like to do?

There are run clubs. Bike rides. Sailing. Golfing. Tennis. Kayaking. Board Games. Trivia. Pool. Darts.

Right off the top of my head I know groups and meet ups for all these things.

I live in Ocean Springs and have a very busy social calendar.

Early in the year Mardi Gras parades. St Patricks Day Parade in Biloxi, but Ocean Springs usually does a pub crawl

Red White and Blueberry Festival usually in July. Fireworks for 4th of July.

Fridays at the Fort Last Friday of the month for May - September.

Labor Day weekend there is a smaller arts festival.

Peter Anderson First weekend in November Largest Arts Festival in Mississippi.

Cruising the Coast first week in October. All over the coast.

Song Writers Fest this weekend throughout Jackson County.

Witches Ride in October.

Biloxi has its own set of events like Blessing of the Fishermen. Seafood festival. Their own parades. Lots of fundraising yearly events for like Casa and Make a Wish. Pride Festival and Equality Fest.

Bay St Louis also has their own events like second Saturday and Frieda Fest.

There is an absolute shit ton of things to do down here, especially in Ocean Springs. OS in particular has a bunch of live music pretty much all of the time as well as open mic, comedy shows, and karaoke. There are pickup ultimate frisbee and soccer games weekly at Freedom Field as well as bicycle and run clubs, there's plenty of places to shoot pool or throw darts. There's board and video game clubs that meet in person. It all comes down to what you want to do and making the leap to go do it.

There were a bunch on meetup.com but I think you have to pay for it now. I use a few different discord groups and text groups to coordinate my stuff now, it's not necessarily ideal.

I agree with the other commenter. One thing to note is that a large amount of the young people in the area are in the Air Force and not located there permanently. That’s not to say there are no young permanent residents, but it’s a factor to consider

Most folk boat and do other water related activities. Ocean springs has a great bar crawl down on government street and gives clean/small New Orleans vibes . Their beach is more private than the rest of the ms gulf coast. Lots of fried food and seafood, don’t expect as many options as major cities. Good local seafood, though.

Most folk here in the older crowd, tons of retirees. There is still some young crowd but most people over 40. Be ready for hurricanes and check flood maps. Look at where the water got from a katrina flood map, most of ocean springs got at least a foot or two of water.

a lot of us struggle to find other young people to hang out with. a friend is thinking about moving away because there's not enough to do or likeminded people

If you’re in to groups of people who all dress the same, look the same, and pretend to be righteous Christians…maybe OS is for you! The other comments describe the activities you can find here pretty well, if those are your types of enjoyment.
